I read this book in the 90s in junior high. The plot has a traveling freak show/circus type show. The leader of the show is a potion master. And one of the members of the show is a really small guy that grows really big and strong when he touches the ground.

This immediately made me think off Bill Britain's Coven Tree series, but I don't have access to any of the books to check. The obvious one in the series would be Dr. Dread's Wagon of Wonders, but none of the descriptions online mention the strongman, only the rainmaker.
