I've made a decision to not complete POTIONS. I've moved onto my NEWTs so will make a post shortly about which books I've already read for these! I actually have followed in your footsteps Anne and 'cheated' by not reading the A,E and O in order... but what the hell! I'm still reading the books. I might do the potions NEWT because again, what the hell, so I'll make one post which I can update through to December 1st (or it could get very confusing!) as I'm planning to complete every subject, not just 5!

Anne ✨ Finds Joy (annefindsjoy) | 718 comments Oh I'd forgotten about those October Extra credits - 9 more days to earn them... I've got 3 more to get - I guess I need to do some speed reading this week!

How's everyone else doing on them?

I have one more book left in order to complete the challenge- I’m sure I’ll finish it by the end of the month. :)

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 494 comments I won't be doing any of the October books. I'm still having fever every day and it hurts my eyes to read much if at all :(

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 494 comments Thanks Essie, I have already finished the OWL read 31.5 out of 35 books in the NEWT challenge, so I'm glad the challenge still has a way to go :)

Sadly I pretty much had all my October reading planned when these challenges were announced, so I haven't had chance to fit them in! Never mind!

Tiina (cauchemarlena) | 371 comments I'm trying to read the books in order without really planning them and it's really a challenge. I'm pretty sure I'll take extra credit for Incendio and maybe even Alohamora after I finish Terry Pratchett's Night Watch for my last potions' book

message 62: by Tiina (new)

Tiina (cauchemarlena) | 371 comments I have 12 books left in my newts, that should be manageable I hope!

Tiina (cauchemarlena) | 371 comments Any chance for extra credit in November too? :D

I can't seem to find any books that take place in the future. Can anyone recommend something? I feel slightly bad for ignoring my Divination NEWTs, but if I want to try things in the order, I need to read a book that takes place in future first!

message 66: by Jazzy (new)

Jazzy Lemon (jazzylemon) | 494 comments Most anything by Ray Bradbury! You can read the short story A Sound of Thunder - it's online somewhere x

I wish there was another extra credit push too! I just checked Book Roast's youtube page, and sadly, no extra credit challenge for November :(

Tiina (cauchemarlena) | 371 comments Silly question maybe, but I'm still going to ask it. Does a book that's based on historical events which are in the novel tied together with folklore qualify as a retelling? Or, does it have to be based on a fairy tale/other novel/something like that?

Anne ✨ Finds Joy (annefindsjoy) | 718 comments Guess what? Exciting news for December: There's a Hogwarts Holiday Challenge! Check it out here:

I think generally a retelling is where a folklore/tale or a novel is 're-told' in a different way, not sure if that helps, I think there's plenty of room for interpretation, so if you feel the book will put it's own spin on the folklore aspect, then that would work!

Tiina (cauchemarlena) | 371 comments Thanks, Anne! Now, I'm troubled with the book that takes place in future... is it our future or the author's future? :D

Either would work :) A book that's set in the future from today, or a book that an author wrote historically, but about a future time.

Here's a Goodreads list of popular future-fiction novels if that helps:

Neat! I was just wondering, because I started reading A Scanner Darkly which was written in 1977 and takes place in 1994 - so our past and the author's future :D

That's great! I'm super envious! I'm having so much trouble finding books that I want to read for my N.E.W.T.s these days...

message 76: by Chloe (new)

Chloe Reads Books (chloee_matthews) So I'm nearly done for this challenge! I'm going to be reading Asking For It which is a cover that charmed me (my E for Charms). I'm missing a translated book, and a retelling and that's it. I more than likely won't get them in before the end of the year but I think that's pretty good going!

message 77: by Tiina (new)

Tiina (cauchemarlena) | 371 comments I'm three books away from completing this, so I think that I'll continue with this until I've got Os in all my subjects.
