SOLVED. Group of boys at a summer camp who are bullied by older campers. Think an animal name was in the title (bison, buffalo?). It was made into a movie in the 70s. [s]

If I’m not mistaken the ending was a bit ambiguous and tragic. But I can’t for the life of me recall now the proper ending. One of my English teachers in junior high made the class read the book and then he showed us the movie. Trying to recall the title now.
