Brittany (nerdyspinster) | 255 comments Since the official Alt is unavailable as an e-book (at least in the US), Felicia mentioned Games of Command as a suitable alternative. And because I'm in the mood for something with a potential for smut, I figured I'd open this thread for everyone else who might want to read and discuss this book!

Description:

The universe isn’t what it used to be. With the new Alliance between the Triad and the United Coalition, Captain Tasha “Sass” Sebastian finds herself serving under her former nemesis, biocybe Admiral Branden Kel-Paten–and doing her best to hide a deadly past. But when an injured mercenary winds up in their ship’s sick bay–and in the hands of her best friend, Dr. Eden Fynn–Sass’s efforts may be wasted.

Wanted rebel Jace Serafino has information that could expose all of Sass’s secrets, tear the fragile Alliance apart–and end Sass’s career if Kel-Paten discovers them. But the biocybe has something to hide as well, something once thought impossible for his kind to possess: feelings . . . for Sass. Soon it’s clear that their prisoner could bring down everything they once believed was worth dying for–and everything they now have to live for.

PointyEars42 | 476 comments A note to long term VFers: If you are hesitating because you were there when we read "Gabriel's Ghost", just go back to repressing those awful memories and treat this one as if its the 1st time you're reading a Linnea Sinclair. Gabriel's Ghost was a total fail but her other books, even within that same series, all seem to be much better written & more enjoyable and have stronger plots and smarter characters.

Its been a long time since I read this and don't remember the details, but I know I liked both the MCs and got lost in it as both SF and as a romance.

Lindsay (the_great_linzini) | 56 comments I just finished "Games of Command" and I really enjoyed it. - I didn't feel as connected to these characters as I did to the characters in the "Lunar Chronicles" (Cinder/Scarlet/Cress), but it was still an enjoyable read. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a decent science-fiction romance.

At first I was a tad wary about this one, the names of the main female characters, (Sass and Eden), screamed "CHEESY" to me However, I'm happy I stuck with it. There was definitely a cheese-factor here, but it was enjoyable cheese. (It was like getting a bite of that awesome honeyed goat cheese from Trader Joe's when you were totally expecting to get a mouthful of Cheeze Whiz).

The furzel pet-creatures were kind of lame, but my girly 12-year-old self secretly loved them.

I was a little disappointed a the lack of smutt in this read, (I was expecting more). But the overall romance was sweet and fun to read.

Lindsay (the_great_linzini) | 56 comments I wish I could edit that last post. Please overlook the poor punctuation! Dyslexic girls writing book reviews via their iPhones... a treacherous mix. - A Treacherous mix indeed!

Keidy | 313 comments @Lindsay: You actually could edit your post or delete it. I'm not sure if you can do it over your phone but you can do it over the computer for sure!

Lindsay (the_great_linzini) | 56 comments I've been able to edit reviews, but I can't seem to edit thread posts on my phone. I'm on hiatus from my job at the moment and trying to avoid my computer, if I can help it.

Meh. - Hopefully no one here will hold it against me. (I kind of just wanted to let those who may judge my inelegant post know that I was aware of its... issues).

I haven't started reading this one yet, but I definitely plan to once I finish Outlander. So not a whole lot of smut huh? Darn. Oh well, can't win them all, I guess. But I think this book will be right up my alley for a quick sci-fi romance at the very least.

Yeah, I was there for Gabriel's Ghost and lemmed it halfway through. I'm hoping this one is much better. I thought the heroine in Gabriel's Ghost was an idiot, so I expect the one in this book not to be considering she's supposed to be a military captain.

Oh, then you HAVE to read "Hope's Folly" when you have the chance. It's the one Felicia wanted to pick that month but didn't because its the 3rd or 4th in the series. I repeatedly flipped back to the cover to check if it was even by the same author. Remember the idiot heroine's "douchey" ex-husband we met before she hooked up with the obsidian-eyed brain-rapist? Hope's Folly is his book and it turns out that he's not a douche at all.. watch him take a back seat without hesitation when the heroine is better at something than he is, for example.

Oh, then you HAV..."

I'll put it on my To-Read list, thanks! I really need to see what other books Linnea Sinclair has, because a friend of mine has recommended her to me before, but I never got around to reading her books until Gabriel's Ghost. Not the best one to start with, probably, considering her other books get more praise.

Anna | 135 comments I've read a few by Linnea Sinclair at this point, and hope's folly is by far the best. I haven't read games of command yet, but I might check it out.

Brittany (nerdyspinster) | 255 comments Started reading Games of Command yesterday and already I'm picturing Sass as Starbuck/Katie Sackoff.

message 13: by Beth (new) - rated it 3 stars

Beth I just finished and I think I nearly got whiplash at Sass's feelings towards Branden. I wish that had been dealt with better; her side never really felt real. I did like the world building.
