Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Yes, but I'll tell you that after I help you this time! :-)

message 52: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Zainab, we're adding your edition, not the original one, so it's OK. But it if you have the original title in turkish, it might help me research.

Is the Publisher's name " Zadar : Forum"? Or "Forum", from the Zadar region? My research seems to indicate it is "Forum", or Forum d.o.o.o. :-)

GR doesn't include the city of the publisher.

By hard copy I think you mean a book with a hard cover, right?

The cover image is obtainable from Amazon (but I could not find it there) or from the publisher's site. I couldn't find Forum's site. Do you know it?

But I found Kaknus Publishing's site, so if you have the original title I could find some more info.

Don't you have at least a small description? Like "Superman and Spiderman go to Croatia", or something like that? :-)

message 53: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments hehe, just found the turkish original.

http://www.kaknus.com.tr/urun/atakan-...

message 54: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments I used the turkish edition description and used Google translator to translate it into Croatian. Result:

Atakan postaje superhero (Hardcover)

What do you think? Acceptable? Or you can edit this text a bit and improve it.

message 55: by Zeljka (new)

Zeljka | 502 comments So, the publisher is Forum d.o.o. http://www.forum-zadar.hr/jakov.php, but there is no cover for this specific book. And they are from Zadar (city).
Hard cover is what I thought.
I have no idea of the original title but in some translations the main character is Pietro (Jakov in Croatian, and obviously Atakan in Turkish).
You did the homework that is for sure, but the translation is not acceptable because it is about the whole serie about the boy called Atakan, or Jakov. I guess that Google is ok for translations to and from English, but other combinations should make you skeptical:-)
I'll try to find some description that is already published and translate it in English.

message 56: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments You can just write a small descrition in Croatian. Actually, for a Croatian language book, the description should be in Croatian.

message 57: by Zeljka (last edited Oct 15, 2018 12:52PM) (new)

Zeljka | 502 comments In that case you can put this:
Jakov je nestašan, vragolast, radoznao i svojeglav. Sa svojim vjernim psićem Rubijem doživljava nove zabavne pustolovine - sada postaje superjunak.

In English: Jacob (English version od name Jakov) is naughty, curious, and self-righteous. With his faithful puppy Ruby experiencing new fun adventures - he now becomes a superhero.

message 58: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Anyway, I have already added the original book and your copy, with the data we have so far. :-)

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...

message 59: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments I'm very skeptical of Google translator for any translation! ;-)

But to give you a general idea of the content of a text, it works. For publishing, though...

message 60: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments So I helped Zainab with this book, but the whole operation is very useful to let you all know it is not an easy task, if you want it done properly, according to Goodreads' standards.

If anyone else wants a book included in GR, you may ask in the GR Librarians Group, here:

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...

More likely, you'll get attention faster, because all GR volunteer librarians will read it there.

Please research in advance, and when you ask, send all the data available, as in message # 48 on the previous page in this thread (titel, ISBN, publisher, etc.)

If you ask us, please do that on the main Hogwarts Challenge thread.

message 61: by Zeljka (new)

Zeljka | 502 comments Thank you, didn't mean to give you so much work for silly kids book but I have bookshelf full of books that GR doesn't recognize, and now I know what to do in future;-)

Done.

Happy with your new GR book? :-)

Zeljka | 502 comments Great;-)

message 64: by Marcos (last edited Oct 15, 2018 01:26PM) (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments There's another possibility for the cover image.

You can scan your own book. Or even take a picture of it, but this usually results in a poor image, not recommended unless you're a good photographer.

If you produce an image like this, you can then send it to me and I'll publish it there.

I was trying to pay attention for when we reached 9,000, but we flew right past it. That’s awesome!

When we get to 10K I think it will call for a party.

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) Hi all,

I received a message from a marketing manager planning the 20-year anniversary for The Perks of Being a Wallflower asking if we would be interested in setting up a giveaway next year sometime. Is this something we would be interested in?

Thanks for the feedback!

message 68: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Interesting idea. I'd want to know details, and I, personally, am not interested in participating... but on the surface it sounds like a fun thing.

message 69: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments That's interesting. We've never received that kind of offer before, that I know.

However, it depends on what are the basis for the deal. For instance, will anything be asked in return?

message 70: by Susan (new)

Susan | 442 comments Yes, how would we be involved? Would they be doing the giveaway with our group exclusively? Not sure what it means.

message 71: by Susan (new)

Susan | 442 comments I agree with Randy's party idea for 10k 🙂

message 72: by Marcos (last edited Nov 03, 2018 07:12PM) (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments The party idea is great. it was suggested sometime ago, I don't remember exactly, may have been around 5K. But we didn't come out with a workable format.

If you have any suggestions, be quick! We're already 9,400! :-)

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) Susan wrote: "Yes, how would we be involved? Would they be doing the giveaway with our group exclusively? Not sure what it means."

My impression was that it would be exclusive, but I will ask for the details.

I will check on the details. It sounded like there might be some flexibility.

Cheryl wrote: "Interesting idea. I'd want to know details, and I, personally, am not interested in participating... but on the surface it sounds like a fun thing."

Thanks for the feedback. Anything in particular you’d want me to ask about?

message 74: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Really, if I were deciding, I'd simply want to know what they volunteered; I'd consider how professional they seem, how clear they make the terms, what's in it for them, what exactly they need from you....

message 75: by NancyJ (new)

NancyJ (nancyjjj) Hi, I really love the earlier and faster nomination and voting process!

I noticed something in other groups that I think would be perfect (and easy) for this group. In the nomination updates, and on the poll ballot, they list the number of pages in each book. This way people are less likely to vote on a book that is longer than they really care to read.

Example. The update is post #39
https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

Some groups have 3 month reads for long books, but that's a much bigger decision.

message 76: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Hi, today the popup for 'group rules' appears every time I make a comment, and sticks even after I've posted it. I *think* it's just this group, not a GR bug, so could you check the group settings please?

Btw, if you're not already a member of the Moderator Support group I do recommend it: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/.... Ditto the official GR Feedback group.

message 77: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) um, however, the popup did not stick this time... weird....

message 78: by Kerri (new)

Kerri | 711 comments I have that happen sometimes too! I always thought it was just a site glitch.

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) The group setting is to have it pop up with every comment. It was not something Marcos or I changed but something already in place. I did add to the rules at one point. We can change it.

Hi Nancy,

Great suggestion! Marcos and I discussed and agree this an easy and good change we can make. We intend to implement it next round. I think you may have mentioned this previously, so I apologize for not responding sooner.

Thanks!
Joanna

Hi Cheryl,

I changed the settings to where the rules pop up on first time post and not every time. I also added the rules to the announcement thread. Let me know if you have any more issues.

Thanks,

Joanna

message 82: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Thank you!

I support giving us a heads-up about page counts, too.

message 83: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments The number of pages can be informed by the nominator of the book.

But if they don't, we can insert the number in the tracking, anyway - easy task.

Very good idea!

We are now at 10,007 members... just this morning it was 9,991... so I quess it's party time;-)

message 85: by Marcos (last edited Dec 24, 2018 03:47AM) (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Numbers shift quickly! After I mentioned 1,991 they dropped to 1, 988. It seems people come and go everyday. And now it has dropped to 10,006!

Then I kept an eye on that page for more than half of the day, but then had to meet family and lost the magical moment!

But yes, it's party time! I'll think of something!

message 86: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments I was expecting to see who would be member 10,000.

It is now impossible to determine that precisely, because of this number shifting.

Right now it would be courtney devane, but when Zeljka looked it would be Josefina.

message 87: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Anyway, we reached two incredible marks today, December 23: 10,000 members and 1.5 million pages read!

message 88: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Fun!

Zainab Al Lawati (zainaballawati) | 224 comments Dear Mods,
As 2019 started, I think we need to create 2019 Read-Along Challange in the group challenges section. No rush, but I just wrote it in case it was forgotten :D

message 91: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Working on the new 2019 challenges!! News as soon as possible!! :-)

These demanding members... :-DD

At least the 2019 Relay Race one is up since yesterday night (here)!

Zainab, loved to have you as a member, great contributor, reader, chat partner, critic, helper and friend in 2018!

message 92: by Zainab (new)

Zainab Al Lawati (zainaballawati) | 224 comments Haha take your time, I just thought this read-along is personal and different than our themed discussion type challenges so it could be easily forgotten :D

Thank you Marcos, it was indeed a fun year with the group. Wishing for even better years.

message 93: by Renee (new)

Renee (elenarenee) I have never really done ths challenges. Is there a thread that explains what each one entails?

message 94: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments OK, the 2019 Read Along Challenge is up!

Easy to find: on the Groups home page!

message 95: by Marcos (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Renee wrote: "I have never really done ths challenges. Is there a thread that explains what each one entails?"

Renee, there isn't. That's a good idea to think about.

But in message 1 on page 1 of each challenge there is a good desscription and instuctions.

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) Hi all,

Marcos posted the reading relay challenge for 2019 and is requesting weekly volunteers to check totals. He's got volunteers into March already, but just wanted to mention that here.

Happy 2019!

Joanna Loves Reading (joannalovesreading) Hi all,

Please welcome Tori to the Mod team! She has been an active member since the group’s first year and was a house prefect during the Hogwarts Challenge. She will be taking on the ABC Challenge to start.

Thanks all!

message 98: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) Welcome Tori! I'm sure there are plenty of duties to go around!

message 99: by Marcos (last edited Feb 03, 2019 12:59PM) (new)

Marcos Kopschitz | 1766 comments Well, this action has been taken without my participation or agreement.

We'll have to try to settle this somehow.

message 100: by Nell (new)

Nell | 438 comments Oh! I was surprised by the new mod announcement but I didn't expect a mod to find out the same way members did. Hope you guys work it out. As co-mod in another group, I will say that communication is key.
