SOLVED. Sci-Fi Short Story - Reverend Vs. Aliens [s]

I am looking for a short story that I read at least 10 years ago, and I believe it was a "classic" rather than a new work. The plot centers on a war between aliens and humans, and the main character is a priest or reverend who somehow comes to know that God has sided with the aliens. He has to decide whether to side with God or humanity, and (view spoiler)[ chooses humanity. I remember a "go get'em, tiger!" feel to the ending. (hide spoiler)] All attempts at Googling have brought me only conspiracy theories, so I'm hopeful that someone knows off the top of their head.
