SOLVED. YA series in the 90's - the girl sucks on unlit cigarettes. [s]

Hi,

I worked at our local town library from 1997-1999 and read a YA novel series with high school or college kids. It was a bit saucy (maybe I just remember it that way), and the only detail I can recall is a girl who sucked on unlit cigarettes but didn't smoke them.

Does it ring a bell??

Ooh I know this! It's the Making Out series by Katherine Applegate (also known as Boyfriends/Girlfriends). The unlit cigarette girl is Nina.
