Rachida | 152 comments OPENING SURVEY

1. What part of the world are you reading from today?
The Netherlands

2. Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
I’m a huge mood reader and I haven’t made a TBR but I’d like to read (and finish) The Wishing Game

3. Which snacks are you most looking forward to?
Caramel latte macchiato and winter glow tea. I always turn into a barista during Deweys readathon lol.

4. Tell us a little something about yourself!
I hardly read books in my native language but I have some Dutch books on my tbr for this readathon.

5. What are your goals for this readathon?
I want to see how much I can read while having a busy weekend with multiple appointments. Bonus point if I actually manage to finish a book.

Random update # 1:

As we're almost half way through the readathon I wanted to do a small update. First of all i'm very happy that I managed to read 2 books. To be fair, they're very short but I still feel very accomplished :). And it's also more than I thought I'd be able to read today!

One of my goals was to read more Dutch books this year. Both of the books I read today were Dutch. I enjoyed reading wij zijn de wereld but the other book had a spicy scene and for some reason I just can't handle reading spicy scenes in Dutch. It made me cringe so hard! I also felt secondhand embarrassment, based on nothing because the characters certainly didn't feel any kind of embarrassment lol. I don't think I'll ever get used to reading romance books in Dutch and that's totally fine. It was a fun experiment but I'm gladly switching back to English :)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments Nice going Rachida!

I had to laugh about the spicy scenes in your Dutch book (I’m from the Netherlands). Was it an original Dutch book or translated into Dutch?

message 166: by Rachida (new)

Rachida | 152 comments Thank you Susy!!
It was translated in Dutch, a fact that I found out after I finished the book. I saw the book "de derde date" on storytell and thought it'd be a cute meet cute story about... well.. a third date lol. But the english title is "just the tip".......... so I should've known it had spicy scenes if i had only checked lol. It just took me by surprise! This was my face the whole time: 🤨🫣🥴
Do you enjoy reading romance in Dutch?

Rachida | 152 comments HALF-POINT PROGRESS REPORT

1. How many books have you been reading? Have you finished any? Are you on track with respect to your readathon goals so far?
I’ve been reading 3 books and I finished 2 of them. I’d say I’m very much on track because my is to try and read as much as possible during this busy weekend and that’s going great!

2. Have you eaten real food today? (Not just junk food, ACTUAL HEALTHY FOOD) What was your favorite food or beverage so far?
I had a salad for dinner so yes. Favourite beverage was the speculoos latte.

3. Have you been participating in any of the activities on our social media (sprints, photo challenges, discussion questions, BINGO, etc.)
I’ve joined the sprints, updated on GR and chatted on discord. I still have to see if I completed any of the bingo challenges so far.

4. Are you growing sleepy? Do you plan to nap, or stop early, or are you extending the readathon hours to include sleep?
It’s 3 am and I’m very sleepy. I’m going to bed after this update and I might extend the readathon if I’m up for it.

5. Have you been outside yet today? Have you had much exercise (besides the heavy lifting required to hold your book)?
Yep :) I went for a walk and even read in the backyard for a bit.

6. How is your readathon going, overall?
Very well! I really enjoyed my time today!!

Hahaha!
No, I’m not a fan of romance, and I’m not a fan of books that have been translated to Dutch. If possible I try to read in the original language or otherwise in English. Sometimes I have no choice but to read the Dutch translation but I’m often not a fan…

Rachida | 152 comments CLOSING SURVEY
better late then never

1. How many books did you read during this readathon? Did you have any favorites?
I read 3 books. My favourite out of these is Throne of Glass.

2. How many books did you finish?
Wij zijn de wereld by Jostein Gaarder De derde date by L.J. Shen

3. Did you accomplish your goals for this readathon?
Yes! I managed to read quite a bit and I had a great time overall.

4. How did your snacks and meals work out? Are there things you would change about the food and beverages side of your readathon for next time?
They worked out fine! I’m not a huge snacker but I had some sweet, savory and healthy snacks to choose from which was very nice.

5. Did you enjoy this readathon? What was the most successful part of your readathon? What would you change for next time?
I always look forward to these readathons. Over the years since starting Dewey’s I’ve been participating in more and more readathons including 24 hour readathons. But I never get as excited as when I get to join Dewey’s readathon. It will always hold a special place in my heart.
The most successful thing this time around was that I had a good balance of family time and reading time.

6. Will you be continuing your readathon reading past the end of our official readathon?
I wanted to but didn’t have much time. So I’ll be there again for the next readathon!
