I agree, I thought The Way of Kings was a great book. I haven't listened to Oathbringer yet because I need to look up the Cosmere reading order first. I've done Edgedancer though.
That’s a different kind of disappointment. There’s going to be other books along the way as well. Sanderson told me last week (which may be common knowledge) that there will more Mistborn with a 1980s-tech setting.
So I finished Perdido Street Station. At the beginning I thought this was a very bizarre book but it definitely grew on me. Never did understand why the militia was after the main characters but it became much better and fast paced toward the end of the book. I think the listening was part of the problem as the reader didn't do the many characters in all that different of a voice so it was at time a bit hard to follow.
Finished On Basilisk Station. Seems it was a buddy read, so I guess it didn't really count for my challenge. But ah well, I enjoyed it still.
My priorities have changed a bit - I'll be moving next month so I want to get through my stack of books that will go to the charity shop once read! There's quite a few, pretty sure I'm not going to manage them all but I can at least make a dent.
A Natural History of Dragons finished - I really did not expect to like this one but it was surprisingly enjoyable. I listened on Audio and found the MC to be insightful in retrospect and well able to create the air of frustration that women would have in a world where education and intellectual pursuit is denied them.

I'm staying in the same city (Bath), just moving from a studio to a 1 bed (with actual heating!!). Brand new build, I'm so excited to escape the mould and damp :)
Oh, if you don't want to give all your books away there's a nifty trick you can do where you sign up for a storage unit. Some of them give you 4 weeks no-contract storage for something daft like £8, in the hopes you'll stay with them and pay £40 a week after that. Some even offer a free van collection service on sign-up, so you can put a bunch of stuff in there and empty it at your leisure after the move.

Thanks for the tip! However I am using this as an excuse to get through the books that have been sat around for years and I always intended to redonate them...

What will fill that gap on my shelf?" I am a weak, weak willed man.
Take it from a lifetime book hoarder - I don't know how people get rid of books... When I die my kids will have a field day getting rid of all my books.
But just let them try before that day - aarrggh!

I just finished this as well. I was also rather surprised how much I liked it. :)

I used to be really bad, but now having moved multiple times I've just accepted it has to be done. :(

That's what did it for me too, and my wife helped to, with asking me the age old question, "Are you really going to re-read that?" So, I try really hard to think about whether I will get to again knowing full well that I have to sacrifice a new read to be able to do it. So far i have been able to keep my number of books down fairly low. I'm also planning on buying a house in the next few years and packing up books sucks

A while ago I purged everything but a few cherished signed / first editions. It's nice not having stacks of books in your tiny office.
Finished the first 3 Red Rising books now, and they were all mind-bendingly excellent. So I'm at 10/117 of my challenge shelf (9%). A bit slowed down by trying to finish all the St Mary's books and the Rivers of London series before the end of Oct.
It's definitely open ended, although that does of course mean books will keep being added each month...
I use this challenge mostly to remember what to read next. And I read other books in between.
I am still on The Way of Kings that I find very good.
Scott, aren’t the Red Rising books just the best?I’m so excited Brown is continuing the story on with a new trilogy.
Excited to hear your thoughts on the 4th book!

Good point. ;)
Good point. ;)
I don't read enough books each month to keep up. But I just finished Kings of the Wyld which was a lot of fun, and I'm looking forward to Bloody Rose! Too many good books to read, good videogames to play, good TV to watch and so on and so on...

The first trilogy was great, yeah! I'm looking forward to grabbing book four and diving in - just as soon as I dig my way out of this pile of books *waves patent pending book-shovel*
I've just finished Ready Player One and The Blade Itself That puts me at 12/117 (10%). I've just started the enormous The Red Knight though, so my progress is about to go down the big porcelain flushy-thing.

Trademarked! Anybody referring to the big porcelain flushy thing has to pay me royalties...perhaps while I'm on the throne. We can call it the spend a penny tax.
I just finished Parasite and there doesn't appear to have ever been a discussion thread for it so I'll just say here, I really enjoyed it. I will be continuing the series for sure.
Cupcakes & Machetes wrote: "I just finished Parasite and there doesn't appear to have ever been a discussion thread for it so I'll just say here, I really enjoyed it. I will be continuing the series for sure."I read that one too and thought it was great.
I've got another 16 hours to go on my audiobook of The Red Knight. I'll have to see if I can lay my hands on a copy of Parasite after that. Audiobooks are so great for when you're doing the dishes and stuff, aren't they? I really need to recharge my bluetooth shower speaker so I can listen there too.
I love my shower bluetooth and always having a book on during chores and while cooking. I love the library and their choices of audio books! They don't have near as much as audible but it is free and a great way to catchup on this challenge where a wait list really doesn't matter.
I use RNIB's Overdrive service for my audibooks when not using Audible. My library seems to want me to listen to books on these weird silver round things, and the only device it'll fit in in my house is the PS3, which'd lock me in the living room for hours.
technology has really helped people expand their horizons especially when they find it hard to have access to the more traditional ways of doing things. Between audio books and speaking into a microphone to "type" words in - wow what game changers. Is that something that is outside the US only? My granddaughter is legally blind - always looking for ways for her to enjoy all the great stories out there.
I’m pretty sure there is a US equivalent. But audiobooks have become popular with the general public, so there are more of them now.
