Sandy | 1665 comments At least I have found an anti-hero hero in the list. Yay!

Two down, and reading a third!

Margo Great progress Rinn :-D

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments I'm more than 80% into Grace of Kings now. Sheesh, this book is a slog!

message 57: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 1665 comments Yeah it was - so glad I listened and didn't read it. I am slogging thru the witching hour by Anne Rice. It got good reviews but there is way too much history. 1200 pages long - there ought to be a law against books that long.

Started the Prince of Thorns - pretty good so far but only at chapter 4 or so. Hard to like Jorg, I must say. But will continue on for a bit...

Ooh I came so close to buying that one - sounds like I had a lucky escape!

Falynn - the TyGrammarSaurus Rex | 524 comments Made my catch-up shelf - even leaving aside a few I know I don't want to read (*cough*Grace of Kings*cough*), I've still got 85! Not much to catch up on then...

A lot of them are Book 1 of a series, so I guess if I like them my TBR is only going to grow and grow and grow!

I currently own 15 of them, so guess I'll start with those and see what else I can get through the library.

Own (in no particular order):

Divergent
Station 11
On Basilisk Station
A Darker Shade of Magic
The Invisible Library
Snow Crash
The Rook
A Conjuring of Light
Kings of the Wyld
Retribution Falls
Leviathan Wakes
Consider Phlebas
Mistborn: The Final Empire
Titus Groan
A Gathering of Shadows

full shelf

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments I joined the library in my new town today, so hopefully that'll help me get through my catchup shelf. Only if they have enough ebooks though, reading print is nice but it takes me ages to get through a book that way with my poor sight.

Oryx and Crake finished - really like that one!

Margo Kritika wrote: "^ that's one of my favorites, and the sequel is even better!"

The whole series is excellent Rinn - go for it ;-)

message 65: by Margo (new)

Margo I finished Record of a Spaceborn Few which I have on my list although it was this months read.

message 66: by Eric (new)

Eric | 128 comments Finished Snow Crash. I enjoyed it.

Now reading The Name of the Wind.

message 67: by Fannie (new)

Fannie D'Ascola | 607 comments Lucky you. I would like to read that one again for the first time.

I am still on Locke Lamora. It took me so long to read even if I like it a lot. Vacation for me means less reading time, but more fun with the kids.

message 68: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments Just bought Red Rising for 99p on kindle, so that can be my next read towards the challenge perhaps.

I had the same issue Fannie, read almost nothing during vacation, had an amazing time though

message 71: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments Right. Finished Half a King and started Consider Phlebas. I probably won't empty my challenge shelf before the year's out, but damn it, I'm going to go out swinging! *strikes a heroic pose*

message 72: by Cendaquenta (new)

Cendaquenta Just starting The Last Unicorn. 😁🦄

I see that big S on your shirt front! If we emptied it this year whatever would you do next year? **grins**

message 74: by Margo (new)

Margo Gods forbid we'd ever have empty challenge shelves :-D

message 75: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments If I empty my challenge shelf, I can always go dive into the bottomless pit that is my to-read shelf :D

message 76: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments Which is now conjuring images of me having a "book vault" like Scrooge McDuck's money vault, and diving in for a swim through books.

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments Ah, that'll be it, I looked in the SF folder.

message 84: by Margo (new)

Margo Forgot to update that I read Lock In. I thought it was overrated. Much preferred the prequel. I will check out the thread to see what the group made of if.

message 85: by Narilka (new)

Dawn | 1246 comments Nice! Have you tried out the waterproof feature yet?

message 89: by Maximum (new)

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments Dawn wrote: "Nice! Have you tried out the waterproof feature yet?"

In that I've read in the bath, yes. The manual says not to get it wet even so, and if you do you're supposed to set it somewhere to dry with the USB port facing down.

message 90: by Dawn (new)

Dawn | 1246 comments I may need one. I'm sure I suffer from book withdrawal while I'm in the bath lol

Maximum Beans (maximumbeans) | 521 comments Dawn wrote: "I may need one. I'm sure I suffer from book withdrawal while I'm in the bath lol"

I've got a bluetooth shower speaker and listen to books on that.

message 92: by Narilka (new)

Narilka | 390 comments A bluetooth shower speaker. Why didn't I ever think of that?!

Also good for singing along to AC/DC! :)
Disclaimer: acoustic properties of individual bathrooms may vary and the poster makes no promises about an individuals ability to sing well even in the shower.

Ben George | 32 comments I would love shower speakers. Some of my favorite bookish podcasts are too quiet to hear over the water :(

message 97: by Margo (new)

message 98: by Fannie (new)

I don’t think it’s possible for that one to disappoint.
