Dewey's Read-a-Thon April 2017

A reverse readathon? What does THAT mean?

It’s simple! For our lovely participants around the world, we’ll start this readathon at 8:00 PM Friday, July 27 and run through July 28 at 8pm, Eastern Standard time, where we normally start at 8:00 AM Saturday. Still 24 hours.

And, to give us a chance to relax and enjoy the readathon with you, we won’t be doing prizes. Just a few mini-challenges. Just reading, glorious reading, on a hot summer night and day with lots of community and fun.

Since this is new (and a trial) please help us spread the word! Share whereever you participate on the internets.

Sign up below. Let’s make this a fun night and day, especially for the readers outside of North America!

Jane | 1438 comments I'll of course take part in this. For me this means the RaT starts at 2 am on Saturday to 2 am Sunday morning.

My goal is to get up around 6 am, read all day and finish again between midnight and 2 am.

This should give me the usual time to read and I hope to read at least 1000 pages.

I'll add my selection of books Friday.

Jane | 1438 comments Opening Survey:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
From a small village in Denmark

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
I’m both looking forward to but also a scared about The Book Thief. So many people liked it and I’ve had it since 2011 so it’s about time I read it

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
I have a cold potato salad for lunch I’m looking forward to.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I of course love reading and also going on canoe holidays.

5) This is our VERY first Reverse Readathon! How does it feel in your time zone?
It’s a bit weird that it starts at 2 am. But I decided to start around 6-7 am which means I will likely continue to read until the end. That gives me a bit more time to read than usual.

Jane | 1438 comments After reading 50 % of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak I needed a break from it and instead read
Carole Singer's Christmas by Emily Harvale Carole Singer's Christmas by Emily Harvale which I have finished. Now back to The Book Thief

Jane | 1438 comments Finally I have finished

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

It has taken me all day with a few breaks for the other book.

I didn't like the style of writing but it was a very strong story which of course had me crying in the end.

Jane | 1438 comments Closing Survey!:

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?
It difficult to say as I've been reading from around 7 am to 2 am so it was an okay day. The biggest problem was the heatwave we have in Denmark just now.

2. Tell us ALLLLL the books you read!
A Little Bit of Déjà Vu by Laurie Kellogg (95 pages)
Carole Singer's Christmas by Emily Harvale
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
The Solitarian by Chalyn Amadore
My Christmas Boyfriend by S.J. Crabb (142 pages)

3. Which books would you recommend to other Read-a-thoners?
Even though I didn't enjoy it as much as I had hoped I'll stil recommend The Book Thief

4. How did you feel about this first-ever Reverse Readathon? Should we do it again?
Yes, it was nice to start early and actually do it in one day

5. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again?
Would you be interested in volunteering to help organize and prep in October?
I'm definitely participating again but I'm not interested in volunteering
