Finished. I loved this book. I've always been a fan of the heist series Ocean's 11 and after finding out that SoC was about teenagers pulling off a heist, I was more than a little interested. I only wish I hadn't let it sit in my living room for so long before picking it up. This is my first foray into the Grishaverse and I plan on purchasing the Grisha trilogy soon to read. The world building is amazing.

These kids all have issues and hurts but what really shook me the most was how Wylan can't read and the way his father treats him and MOCKS him for it! I was stunned. Wow. Looking forward to see how the team wreaks havoc on Van Eck to save Inej in Crooked Kingdom. (hide spoiler)]

Eh, I'm okay without having read TGT prior to this. I like having "stand-alones" within the same universe. Regardless, I look forward to reading TGT and recognizing names/places/etc.

Finished... 3 stars. I definitely don't see what the hype around this book is. If this was written by a different author, I feel like it wouldn't be so anticipated. It's the author and the Grisha setting that's made people so obsessed with it; sometimes people just find amazing things to see in books they want to love maybe when they aren't even there.
I just feel like this jumped around a lot and all of the different characters made the story just feel choppy. Normally I adore multiple POV, but with all of the background and history we got on all of the characters, I feel like the book actually moved pretty slowly.
I have no clue why people love Kaz... He's actually the worst bad boy I've ever come across, so full of his own shit. I really hate him. I don't care about his past, I just don't like the way he acts in the present, and he treats them all like crap. To me, no redeeming qualities there. No idea why everyone calls him their baby...

I'm a couple of hundred pages in and I can see what you mean. I also feel like the characters are forced upon you. So many people love them and I wanted to but it's too much! It's like Bardugo's forcing them down my throat to love them. I want to, but I don't really feel anything for them - dunno maybe I'll change my mind after I've finished it, we'll see...
