ABANDONED. Fiction- Possible title associated with Hummingbird/ Young Girl taken in and educated/ Becomes Nanny/ Has Affair with Husband/Becomes Pregnant/Kicked out/Husband's wife has cancer

My friend read this book at a happier point in her life and she has it rough right now so I'd like to bring her some happiness. She read the book around 5 years ago and thinks it was published sometime in a early 2000s. Pleaseif you can. Here Is what she remembers of the plot:

1) girl grew up in poverty and was taken in by a woman and educated.
2) Then she started working for this lady that had 5 girls as her nanny
3) She has an affair with the employer's husband and gets pregnant and is subsequently kicked out of the house by the wife.
4) the wife later gets cancer and dies.
5)the protagonist moved on to become a teacher with her own school and she was about marry another guy but she heard about the wife's death
5)She went to the funeral with the son of her former employer
6)she left the guy she was going to marry. The book ends with the funeral

Also she believes that the title is something associated with the word humming bird?
