Michael Trombold | 4 comments I read this book back between 2005 and 2006 and every few years I remember it, and go on an endless google search that never yields results.

All I really remember about the book is that the first chapter started in California (I think LA, but not for sure) and involved a female teenager who was contacted by an organization that begins a journey to the center of the united states to meet up with the organization. As the book progressed, more characters were introduced, and eventually all their stories tied together. I think it was part of a series, but honestly I have no idea.

I am pretty positive that one of the characters was from New Orleans and she was pregnant, but maybe I'm making up the pregnant thing. I want to say her name was Melissa, but that also could be wrong.

I vaguely remember the female teenager from LA met a boy, either in LA or on her journey and they travelled together for most of the novel. There also was something about this characters mother at the beginning (maybe she was sick, or died, I really don't remember).

Hopefully someone can help me out so I can finally reread this book, that I thoroughly enjoyed as a middle schooler.

Tab (tabbrown) | 5084 comments What genre was this? Scifi, adventure, coming-of-age, mystery, etc?

Did the book mainly focus on the teens' journey to the center of the US? Or, the teens working with the org?

Michael Trombold | 4 comments Honestly, it's been so long I couldn't answer your questions since it has been so long. I'd consider it almost an escape from a dystpoian world type of book. I know it took place in the near future. It focused mainly on their journey to the center of the US, with very little knowledge of what the organization really was. So I guess it was a mystery in that sense.
