Adult Sci-fi, set in current Earth time frame, read 1996-7? (At least before 2000.) Male & female protagonists, I can't recall their relationship to each other, find some kind of doorway or way to another world/alternate reality. Harp-like torture device.

People from the other world are chasing them, in one scene through an abandoned warehouse neighborhood but I don't remember why they're being pursued. My most vivid memory is the following.

The man gets captured by their pursuers at some point and he's hooked up to this huge torture device that's described as resembling a kind of harp. He's naked and every string of the harp is inserted under his skin and connected to nerve endings all over his body including his genitals. The villain in charge plucks the harp strings to torture answers out of the protagonist.
