I read this book as a teenager, in the 1990's, can't remember exactly what year. It had the old type of paper, brownish and was a soft cover.

I can't remember the title or author. i think its genre would be sci-fi. It is about a very rich man who searches different ways to become immortal, experimenting a lot on himself. His father dies but he still has a mom. He detaches himself from other people because he believes he will outlive them. Think there was an experiment from some war (I can't remember which). He also tried some Asian means to attain immortality. He bought an island or some land where he built like a self-sustaining environment for himself to stay
