Abridgement in audiobook

I'm disappointed how heavily abridged the audiobook seems to be. Not only are some stories missing entirely; some of the stories are edited for length, at least the one I was listening to where he read in front of an audience. I can see why they might have done that; they figured some sections would play better for laughs and they could eliminate some short parts to save time. I know I can easily get a copy of the book and just read the stories that weren't included, but this way you have to practically "reread" (in quotes because I really listened at first) the whole thing. I realized the story was shortened because the audiobook was skipping (I'd uploaded audio discs from the library into iTunes and transferred the files to my iPod; one of the discs must have been scratched). I googled the words of the passage I was on to see if the story might be online somewhere. I found it, and some of the sections were not ones I recognized, as they were being skipped over. This makes me feel like I need to check out the book and read the whole thing over again, or at least skim it for parts I may have missed.
