Bhumika Devkota (devmika) Is space nice?

message 22: by tammy (new)

tammy (tamutheshamu) Very empty, to be honest... Didn’t see any aliens out there, but I most likely didn’t look hard enough, haha

message 23: by nicolette (new)

nicolette (nikkisreading) I would've loved to see those aliens ;)

message 24: by Bhumika (new)

Bhumika Devkota (devmika) Or maybe because the aliens have come to Earth and lived as a species called humans.

tammy (tamutheshamu) Ooh, which ones did you take?

message 32: by Bhumika (new)

Bhumika Devkota (devmika) I took AP World. You?

message 33: by tammy (new)

tammy (tamutheshamu) AP Biology and AP Human Geography — let me just say that AP Bio was so brutal for me and I hope to never see it again (no thanks to my teacher who was lazy and didn’t know what she was doing, oops)

message 34: by Bhumika (new)

Bhumika Devkota (devmika) AP Human Geography sounds cool. I didn't know that taht was even an option. Sorry about the bio teacher

message 35: by Bhumika (new)

Bhumika Devkota (devmika) Okay, I actually did well. Looking it up was so much of emotional distress

How did y’all feel about AP Human and AP Bio? I’m taking both this fall.

message 37: by Bhumika (new)

Bhumika Devkota (devmika) Am I the only one who has never heard of AP Human? lol. What is it about?

message 38: by tammy (new)

tammy (tamutheshamu) Well, APHG (human geography) is one of the easier AP classes to take, but it has one of the lowest exam passing rates for some reason. My teacher for that class was a really great guy, and I learned a lot from it -- just remember that the emphasis in that class is knowing the models. There's things like Rostow's model of economic growth, Hoyt sector model, etc., and in order to do well in that class, you must have a good understanding of the models and how they relate to the content taught in the class. Overall, not bad.

AP Bio was really hard for me, as it's really nothing like a regular or honors biology class. I got A's both semesters in AP Bio, but its only because our teacher cut the lowest grade out of each category for us (bless). 9th grade honors biology was extremely easy, but walking into AP Bio was a shock for all of us, to be honest. There's an emphasis on critical analysis, quick reading and understanding what the question is asking during the exam, and you have to remember not to let the word choice trip you up. The class itself is good, but only if you have a good teacher. Ours was just horrible. Prepare to learn about the Krebs cycle, lots of photosynthesis and super in-depth things about DNA...

message 39: by Bhumika (new)

Bhumika Devkota (devmika) Yikes. My school doesn't not have AP bio but instead SUPA bio. I am planning on taking that in 12th grade.

message 40: by tammy (new)

tammy (tamutheshamu) What was AP World History like? It's currently on my radar to take in senior year.

message 41: by Bhumika (new)

Bhumika Devkota (devmika) It was really easy. I had a bad, but easy teacher so that' probably why. I felt like I wasn't prepared but I did pretty well so there's that. Plus, I love history. I took AP history for 1450 to now since my school doesn't offer ancient history but my friend from an another district had it for two years that covered the whole human history. I liked the course and would recommend it. In the AP multiply choice, some questions have all right answers and you have to pick the best correct answer. I don't know how other AP tests are like.

nicolette (nikkisreading) My high school offers AP World History and AP Human Geo (you gotta get recommended tho) to freshman right away, and I'm taking the AP World History one. Did you guys have any AP options in freshman year?

message 43: by tammy (new)

tammy (tamutheshamu) Our school has a policy that freshman aren’t allowed to take AP classes, but obviously there’s always going to be people who work their way around the system and manage to take one anyway, whether it be to academic prowess or some other reason.
I don’t think our school offers AP World History as a class you can take IN SCHOOL, but there’s definitely an online option.
I’m taking quite a few AP’s next year (going to be a junior, ayee!) and honestly I’m half dreading and half excited to go back to school; heck, summer just started, what even...

message 44: by Bhumika (new)

Bhumika Devkota (devmika) I am really excited for next year even tho I have heard that it's really hard. I am taking two AP's but 5 potential college credit classes. I also don't have a study hall at all next year so I am free out about that. I know a kid who is homeschooled and he came to the high school to take the AP World test

Amy (won't be online for a while. sorry to all the groups i'm in!) (mattbatt) | 272 comments I am just emerge ring the world of high school and I am not taking any ap courses

message 46: by tammy (new)

tammy (tamutheshamu) @Bhumika: We have so many kids who do that; take the AP test without taking the class, I mean. And yeah, I’m taking a college credit calc class next year because I don’t want to suffer through AP Calculus AB *shivers*.
- I also don’t have a study hall next year (I took it out so I could have room for AP Music Theory), so I’ll tough it out with you 😂.

@Amy: Ooh have fun in 9th grade, trust me; it just gets worse from there — not to scare or anything, but I took freshman year for granted and I kind of regret it (oops).

Funny story, in my honors biology class (the really fun and easy one), my teacher was one of the chillest dudes ever (I still say hi to him in the halls, haha), and he would let us play cards/board games after just half an hour of teaching curriculum — the class was THAT laid back. Man, fun times.

One thing I don’t miss about freshman year was P.E., goodness that class was the bane of my existence — I’m not bad at athletics, but yeah no, never again.

message 47: by Bhumika (new)

Bhumika Devkota (devmika) So sorry about your gym class. My gym class in 10th grade was horrible people wise.

Amy (won't be online for a while. sorry to all the groups i'm in!) (mattbatt) | 272 comments That stinks. I love gym and I hope that didn't happen to me!

message 49: by Bhumika (new)

Bhumika Devkota (devmika) I hope that for the next year. My gym class should basically be my science class for the most part so here's to hoping!
