The Scene by R.M. Gilmore is our MOD PICK for August. It is rated mostly, sort of, uh ... kind of Adult ... with a weird jiggly bit on Amazon underneath all the warnings about snark and off-color sex jokes and language, that also claims it is Young Adult and Teen???

Eh ... don't shoot the messenger ... YOU guys nominated it :-) A whole BUNCH of you nominated it. So the mods got together and figured if Amazon said it was kinda-sorta-young-adultish-maybe in small letters down at the bottom of the page, it was enough of a disclaimer to say we offered up two YA titles this month.

UPDATE FROM R.M. ... NOT TEEN!!! Ignore what Amazon says ... Amazon is WRONG ... is NEW ADULT with SEX!!!

(Besides ... MOD PICK is about what WE want to read ... why should you guys get all the fun? Mods are people too...)

Anyways, here's the write-up and you'll see why we're all giggling as we make this our MOD PICK and punch our credit card numbers into d'Zon:

"WARNING: Excessive Sarcasm & Adult Language

Irreverent twenty-something and journalist , Dylan Hart, has her little black heart set to cashing-in on the blood-drained bodies of seven prostitutes scattered throughout southern California.

In an attempt to write her first best-selling novel and pay off her ever growing student debt, Dylan begins the search for the culprit of the media-dubbed Vampire Massacres, diving head first into L.A.’s sanguinary ‘vampire’ subculture.

Not your daughter’s vampire story, The Scene escorts readers into an all too real sanguinarian lifestyle and drags them through a bloody good mystery. Horrible pun intended..."

Jan | 1 comments This book is funny, creepy, informative and a bloody good mystery to boot!

I've had the pleasure of reading all three (so far) in the series and they get better as they go.

Dylan Hart has body issues, man problems and vampire difficulties...all of which she handles with her impulsive, razor-sharp (and rather dirty) wit which has become her trademark.

This is a character I could relate to. She's far from perfect and all knowing. She struggles. She doesn't have all the answers. She's flawed. She's human. But somehow she tends to rise above...kicking and screaming all the way!

I learned a lot about the Sanguinarian lifestyle (which I'd never even heard of before) and I learned even more in the following books.

The Scene has a (deceptively) short arc that would be fairly satisfying on it's own. But the lure of the long arc of the thing was too tempting to resist! I had no choice but to read the others.

It is definitely not a book for kids. There's no porn or anything like that, but the language is rough...and hilarious!

I also enjoyed the cultural references scattered throughout...sort of like inside jokes for those in the know.

If you like your heroines a little down and dirty...this one's for you! :o)

Read'nwrit'n Wench | 2 comments "The Scene" is sooooo not YA lol Amazon you need to rethink your self lol.

This book is filled with banter, jokes, hot scenes, no porn but all the same hot, just because there is no paper visual of dirty sexy porn don't mean the this story is YA I love a little dirtiness in a story sometimes the porn gets over rated. But you need to read it to discover the heat behind the story ~ Marcial

Yeah ... I was suspicious when the author-writeup gave prolific warnings about snark and adult language and Amazon went ahead and rated it teen/YA anyways. Sometimes d'Zon does stuff that doesn't make sense :-P
