Family secrets and murder converge in this captivating and suspenseful romance from New York Times bestselling author Linda Howard.

Some secrets need to be told...

Still reeling from her mother's recent death, Karen Whitlaw is stunned when she receives a package containing a mysterious notebook from her estranged father, whom she has barely seen since his return from the Vietnam War decades ago. Then, a shocking phone call: Karen's father has been murdered on the gritty streets of New Orleans.

Even if they lead to murder...

For homicide detective Marc Chastain, something about the case of a murdered homeless man just doesn't add up--especially after he meets the victim's daughter. Far from the cold woman he expected, Karen Whitlaw is warm and passionate. She is also in serious danger. A string of "accidents" have shaken Karen to the core, and forced her into the protective embrace of the charming detective she vowed to resist. Together they unravel a disturbing story of politics, power, and murder—and face a killer who will stop at nothing to get his hands on her father's secrets.

Janeiowa | 4988 comments I loved this book, and look forward to rereading it ...for the fourth time, at least. Marc is one of LH’s unforgettable heroes, for me.

Marika | 78 comments I LOVED Marc and Karen together, and I loved their story!
Marc was strong, smooth, gallant, and very alpha... and justy what Karen needed. Relationship development was a little too quick but they were good together.
Now I'm off to read The Woman in the Window

I finished it last evening! Enjoyed it! I'm not feeling too well right now so I have to keep this short. I liked it - loved Marc and even Karen (though I did find her a little annoying) and their chemistry - but I wish there had been more suspense, more of a plot. Mostly everything was already known since we were following not only what was going on with Marc and Karen but the villain's side of the story as well. I just wanted more.

Jonetta (ejaygirl) Tanvi, I felt similarly. I liked the story but it was much more heavily tilted towards the romance versus the suspense. It also had more plot holes than I was comfortable with. However, the romance was steamy and I liked both characters. Nice set up for the next book and John Medina, quite the enigma.

Here’s my review, which I wrote a couple of years ago.

Eve (everf) | 816 comments I just finished KILL AND TELL, and it was another good story by Linda Howard. There are a lot of cat and mouse situations, many steamy scenes. Overall a well written story. I agree with Tanvi and Jonetta, that by having to follow the villain's side of the story, some of the suspense/mystery went out from the story.
