We’re a female investigative reporting duo at CNN and are publishing our first book in August. The book, A Deal with the Devil, chronicles our hunt for answers about one of the longest-running mail frauds in history, which has duped victims around the world out of hundreds of millions of dollars using letters full of bogus promises that are signed by a mysterious psychic named Maria Duval.
Publishers Weekly calls A Deal with the Devil “an entertaining exposé of an epic episode from the chronicles of consumer fraud.” Edgar-winning author Megan Abbott says it is “one of those can’t-believe-it, can’t-put-down books...that raises bigger questions about greed, manipulation and the desperate hunger to believe.”
NBC business correspondent Ali Velshi calls it “a cautionary tale that reads like a novel,” and Bethany McLean, author of The Smartest Guys in the Room dubbed it “a personal how-to guide for investigative journalists” and “a twisted tale of a scam of huge proportions.”
We also had a major development after the ARC was posted, so please contact us directly if you want to read the new afterword at dealwiththedevilbook@gmail.com.
We are hoping to plan a blog tour to promote our book around its launch in August so please let us know if you have any interest in running a Q&A or any other sort of content on your blog.
Thanks for considering, and we are very impressed with all the time you spend being such thoughtful and avid readers and reviewers!
