Just finished, really enjoyed it. A rich setting and story, loved the main characters too. Can't believe I'm now having to wait ten months, least it isn't a few years.
I like how the language has evolved (devolved?) Lepsy, the pear's name which has escaped me. Witty.
I listened to the audiobook version of this and really loved it. Jal and Snorri turned into an awesome pairing. I loved how each of them, Jal especially, seemed to be learning more about themselves as they went along. The world-building here is awesome, particularly how some of the absurdities of the present world intrude upon and are speculated on by a future unfamiliar with their origins. (The mannequins are just one example.) I also liked the ending and how the guiding "angels" have switched hosts. I can't wait to see this explored more in the next book.
Yes, the angels will have a better fit now I guess so it'll be interesting to see how they adapt.
I listened to the audio book as well (I didn't for the previous series) and found it had very funny bits. Not entirely sure if it was the excellent narrator or text, or both.I absolutely loved this book. It was exciting and entertaining and great prose. The characters are great. I do miss Jorg...but Jal is good times! I think it was the perfect mix of dialogue and action.
I liked Jorg, and I'm happy to like Jalan as well, they have a different approach but are also similar in some aspects, I think Mark Lawrence did a great job here. Also, I liked the change that this book is not choral, it's basically just Jal and Snorri, and follows a single timeline. Less "complex" than Prince of Thorns and I couldn't help but love the development of the writing, I think the quality of the dialogues and Jal's thoughts is outstanding, very witty and funny. The story is intriguing, psychological and the world-building part top-notch, it makes for a great book to all the old readers, and a pleasant discovery for the new ones. I did like the part about Chella, I hope it will be further explored...actually, I think the "reasons" behind Jal and Snorri's pursuit are still not much clear but I wait for the next book. Now, the downside is that we have to wait for next June to read more.
It's the waiting I hate! That is why it's unhealthy to join a group where people read my favourite genre and whet my interest and make me read unfinished series!!
