Amen to this! I love reading the 1 and 2 star reviews of books I loved to see what people hated about them. Often they're things I could agree with but am able to overlook for one reason or another. I think that's at the core of what we'd call "taste". The things that aggravate me (like, to pick on Assassin's Apprentice, the main character's lack of emotional turmoil, especially in the first few chapters) just don't register with others because they find other things that resonate with them.
When I reached a place where I could be okay with dumping a book without feeling a sense of guilt and abandonment, I stopped feeling like picking up a book came with the burden of commitment. Consequently, my enjoyment of reading went way up.

Hey, Juston! I'm amped to read The Way of Kings, but I'm giving Brandon Sanderson a head start. As I understand it, it's supposed to be quite a long series, and I'm trying to spare myself the heartache GRRM fans are feeling, and the heartache I'm feeling waiting on Doors of Stone. I loved Mistborn and his video series on writing, so I'm looking forward to digging in.

Unfortunatly I had to wait till I got home to start another book
Presently reading some Non Fiction
Leaving Mundania: Inside the Transformative World of Live Action Role-Playing Games

Started Software which is about 1000 pages shorter.

The Erikson books are like that, huge and dense. Takes me about a month to read a book

Starting another Poul Anderson book now. Harvest of Stars . Which I think I might have read before (?)

I've found Erikson much more difficult to get through than Martin, for what it's worth. Read the first four Malazan books back in the spring before taking a break. I may get back to them later this year.
This weekend I finished up The Fall of Hyperion, which was a decent follow up to the first book. Then I started on Leviathan Wakes, which is superb. I was barely able to put it down yesterday.
I'm totally binge-reading Ilona Andrews' Kate Daniels books - just started Magic Slays last night. They are so much fun!

Eyes are not too good, have trouble reading the small print. Had to change it up
Switched to Emerald Eyes
Out of genre with an old Irving Wallace book, Pigeon Project, and now reading a YA Arthurian book by Jane Yolen, Sword of the Rightful King.

I'm about a quarter of the way through Hild by Nicola Griffith. I'd only read one other of her books, Ammonite, which is SF; this one is historical fiction and it's just gorgeously written. A slow but satisfying read, at least so far! I'm having trouble keeping track of the characters, some of whose names all sound alike to me, but that's not Griffith's fault since they were all real people!

Ha I dont. I tried to read one of his earlier books, Vortex I beleive and I felt it was pretty sexist. I annoyed me enough to close the book and not finish it.

Also, the book felt like there should of been more.

Previous to that, I read Magic Bites, which was fantastic, so now I'm going to continue with the series (and will probably binge-read them all in a row to celebrate the end of my summer vacation!).
