I wrote The Essence of Stone because I've always wanted to tell stories. I've started several before, but it wasn't until I was in a writer's workshop with CJ Cherryh that I really got serious.
I love the idea of entertaining readers, of giving them another world to explore. Books helped to get me through my life. I wanted to give that back.
The reason I wrote Stone in particular? I wanted to take the quest story and turn it on it's head if possible. I wanted to surprise people who thought they knew what was going to happen. I wanted to work with a culture that wasn't the standard English fairytale background.
