found it,
a government employee gets a tip to get out of town, he listens and empties his navy federal account, goes to family farm and builds an underground bunker. makes trips to Sams club as everything is crashing around him, The government starts FEMA camps on a foot ball field and takes a town hostage. The main character ends up on a train scavenging when he finds a a homeless guy who is former military they start communicating and builds a shaped charge to combat dhs and takes down their cell phone tower.

I believe I listened to this book in 2016 time frame,

Thanks, I added the approx date of listen to it. I do not believe there was any family in this book besides mention of his brother. I have gone thru my audible account and can't seem to locate it either!!
