Feel free to join in if you want. So far, me and Angelica are buddy reading An Ember in the Ashes. Starting, Saturday 16th. Reading five chapters a week, discussing each week's worth on the Saturdays. There will be spoilers in here, so onlookers be aware.

Discussion for chapters 1-5

Wow, that's all I can really say. I don't know about you but I'm loving this right now <3
So, we have Elias (who is my favourite so far), Laia, who I found to be really realistic and a believable character, and Helene, who I am very intrigued to know more about..
I usually don't like two POVs going on at the same time but in this I find myself really fascinated by both of their point of views--both are just really exciting!
So, basically, I love it so far. Love it! So excited to read on!
How did you find it so far? It'll be interesting to see if our opinions differ or are the same.

I am in complete agreement with you on loving the first 5 chapters.

Uh Elias... I love how Tahir makes all her characters so multi-dimensional and deep. With Elias, he is struggling with what he has been trained to be and how he truly is. I can't wait to see how he handles his two versions and how he develops. I have to admit I did not fall in love with Laia. She seemed a tad weak and unsure of herself. I hope she develops a stronger character.

I hope we get to see Elias and Laia interact soon!

Chapters 6-10


Same I want them to meet up already!
This just keeps getting better and better! I think Laia will eventually become strong--in her own way. Well, she'll have to be, since she now has to spy on the Commandant of the Blackcliff!
After learning more about Laia's family, her mom sounds awful--to leave her kids? Yeah it's for the good of the Rebellion but it's still sad.
And Elias (I keep calling him Ezra >:( and autocorrect turned Elias into Elisa xD)
So he was planning to escape until the creepy red-eyed "holy man" (though he seems very unholy) told him that he'd turn bad(I think that's what he said?) if he does. Look, I don't want any of these characters to get hurt and what the unholy man said is still haunting me, "In any case, your future is punishment enough" What?! No! I don't Elias to undergo any punishment!
Oooh and now Elias's entering the Trials! (which I'm still fuzzy on what exactly that is...)
Helene reminds me of Annabeth from the Percy Jackson series, I love her. I just wish she was against the Empire like Elias.
I'm having trouble deciding who's POV I like most... it's all so exciting!
I've just bought a copy of the book because the one I've got at the moment's the library's. I got the new edition, look how pretty the cover is!
