suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Hey? - I can't type out Posts whilst also sat on the Sofa downstairs with a little hairy woofer lying across on my Knees trying her very best to beg, borrow or steal a bit of Cheese from off the Baked Potato I'm trying to eat for my Lunch.

Well, I could? - after all I'm a Woman and so I'm an expert on multi-tasking!

However my Laptop was still upstairs in my Bedroom until 10 minutes ago ;o>

1. Are "Friends" Electric - Tubeway Army (1979)
2. Paranoid - Black Sabbath (1970)
3. Shot by Both Sides - Magazine (1978)
4. 5 Minutes - The Stranglers (1978)
5. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen* (1975)
6. Starman - David Bowie (1972)
7. This Town Ain't Big Enough for Both of Us - Sparks (1974)
8. Virginia Plain - Roxy Music (1972)
9. School's Out - Alice Cooper (1972)
10. Denis - Blondie (1977)

*I can't stand Queen, but this was undoubtedly an event

Was that a telling-off Suze? If so, consider me suitably chastised. For the record, mind, rather than moaning that folk weren't replying to me, I was honestly commenting on how sad I was to type several posts on the trot instead of waiting for a reply - a bit like talking to meself cos I'm not expecting anyone else to! Does seem a little sad when put like that dontcha think?

I watched a pretty good Storyville doc on catch-up last night about the poisons used to make Teflon. Sounds about right eh?

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Hold on a minute. This might be my usual 'noia, but the atmosphere seems a tad colder than back on Zon? In fact, forget Zon, just six months-or-so ago! People used to call each other by their 'Usernames' when addressing each other... at least in the first post of a new conversation. And what happened to all that 'Hello, how ya doing, It's been a while' kinda thing??

What happened? Is it now considered cheesy to address someone personally?? Not too friendly but nevermind. No worries, just curious.

TheFoe | 2637 comments Hi Blastro. :-) I don't know why I seem to have posted less now than in the past, maybe a bit of apathy has set in. On occassion where I've read other posters threads and thought "this is interesting, I'll post a comment", it turns out to be days old and the moment has kind of gone.

As for the Manics, I do actually have a soft spot for 'Motorcycle Emptiness'. :-)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Great track is that bud, from a great (double which is rare for a debut) album. Hey, we can't all like the same stuff - one man's race horse is another man's meat.. or summat like that?! : )

Yeah I really can't talk when it comes to delayed responses and such; I mean I can be two-or-three days before I return to a thread. I say 'a' thread but it's more a case of 'the' thread, as I don't post much on owt else. I realize how daft it sounds in this this day n age but I really don't spend much time online at the minute. Reckon there's probably only five or six threads on here that I've read and/or contributed to full stop! I resolve to be more active when possible.

Ah, to be honest Suze, there's many more that should be on that list. Actually shoulda come up with some from my childhood but all the ones that came to mind were what I've watched with our young uns over the years.

I'll tell ya one that most folk would have in their top ten - Toy Story. Don't think it's a bad film by any stretch but... I just think there's better ones.

suzysunshine7 | 16038 comments Sadly, having not being blessed with Kids of my own, I am not really with it and up-to-date on most of the last couple of decade's worth of family/children Film Releases and TV Shows ... but I do absolutely adore 'The Snowman & The Snowdog' and watch it every Christmas Day plus any repeat on Boxing Day ;o>

I can pretty much take or leave 'The Snowman' - as perhaps I've seen it too many times now? - but there is something special about that adorable little cartoon Snowdog that gets to me everytime that I watch it ;o>

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Ya don't have kids or be one to enjoy a lot of those films Suze but I understand what yer saying. If you haven't already seen it, I'd highly recommend Studio Ghibli's 'Spirited Away'. Guarantee you'd like it. In typical Japanese fashion it manages to be both cute and dark at the same time. Great characters and story, there's nowt to not like. Most excellent.

message 326: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments Yeah, I know it’s not animation, I suppose I just meant non-human characters. My favourite is Makka Pakka with his Og-Pog, he’s quite sad. We came upon it when I was looking after my husband and we were waiting for the nurses to arrive each morning. Quickly got hooked. I might nominate the Tombliboos’ teeth-cleaning song for fav. artists sometime.

Val H. | 22129 comments I love In The Night Garden too - Derek Jacobi has the most soothing voice! I agree it is totally surreal. It's like something out of the 60s drug culture. Makka Pakka is my favourite too, and I do like The Pontipines. Upsy Daisy is a bit of a worry.

And I love Shaun the Sheep!!! And the movie!!

Would definitely recommend Flushed Away to anyone who's not seen it; laugh-out-loud funny. Very rare Aardman put a foot wrong. Didn't they do Chicken Run as well? That's not a bad effort either, tho tainted a little by my dislike for Mel Gibson.

44 more than me, Val 😂

message 335: by Lez (new)

Lez | 7490 comments I find it invaluable! I don’t know a lot of the fav artists nommed and I don’t know what to listen to on YT so I go straight to the artist and whizz through till I find something I like. Same with themes when I choose an artist and see all tracks at once. I have the free version as you get 30 mins ad free which is fine.
Great for classical too as it’s easy to move through separate mvts/sections a couple of minutes at a time, almost impossible on YT.

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Hey there Tech. Dunno which thread it was but you mentioned an Xbox in the house... or did you? Have been in meltdown mode presently so I might've even imagined it... but if I didn't (imagine it) - do ya play on it yerself?
Just wondering about the old hand-eye coordination thing, as mine has (very) noticeably deteriorated over last ten years-or-so. Age thing or me, I wonder.

message 337: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments yes, there is an xbox 1 in my daughter's possession, doubt that i've even seen it never mind played on it! my daughter and her boyfriend, my son and his wife are all avid gamers (he co-runs the 'bit socket' youtube channel), me? i enjoy shooting zombies on the 'house of the dead' for the wii, but apparently that's so passe now and is in a box somewhere!

message 338: by Blastronaut (last edited Dec 08, 2018 05:13AM) (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Don't go on the consoles anything like I did at one time but gotta admit... I still have a couple of sessions a week on em. Really do miss old fashion gaming - I mean this is not a rose-tinted-glasses thing, I accept how much better games look and run these days but it's the bloody updates! Hate the soddin updates!! Ya sit down to have an hour-or-two on yer game and as it's loading up, you're then told that it needs updating and this may take a while. A while? Try a whole evening!!! Some of these updates are like 60-70 gig's worth and if you have crap broadband service and several others in the house all using the net... that's a hell of a wait. Wouldn't be so bad if they gave ya a choice but no, one can't play without accepting said update.
Oh and while I'm grumbling, I'll also mention microtransactions and DLC. Games are deliberately released kinda half the size they could/should be and then players are given the option to buy (on top of what they've already forked out) new levels/weapons/cars etc which, altogether, end up costing twice as much as the game in the first bloody place! Like, how about releasing all this to start with? Dirty, robbing, greedy ********!!!

Capitalism at it's finest eh?

Sorry, rant over. : (

message 339: by TheFoe (new)

TheFoe | 2637 comments Hi Blastro. :-) Fortnite's a nightmare for updates, it's pretty much one every 4 days. I wouldn't mind but my internet is crap, and like you say takes forever. That said I'm not in a major rush to play Fornite as I generally suck at it. Can't aim for toffee, can't build to save my life, can dance a little! ;-)

message 340: by Blastronaut (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Good to hear from ya Foe. Ha ha yeah I'm about the same bud. Don't mind playing shooters but I'm nowhere near the folk that play regularly online. In fact our two eldest have Jedi-like gamer-reflexes compared to me. Have had to watch em match - and then cruise right past - me over the years.
Never actually played Fortnite but have seen one of the lads playing it several times and it looks like the kinda game I'd not exceed at. Seems very addictive, mind.
I really miss the days of the PS1 or PS2 when ya simply put in your disc and play the game, no messing or waiting several hours! I'm tempted to harp on about the days of Spectrum 48 and C64 but if I was to take off the rose-tinted-spectacles, I remember sitting five-or-ten mins for the game to load just for it to crash and have to try again... and again!
All said n done I guess we have come quite a way since the Atari home system with the 'tennis' type game consisting of a small square and a couple of sticks... and at the arcade - Space Invaders!!

message 341: by TheFoe (last edited Dec 18, 2018 10:44AM) (new)

TheFoe | 2637 comments Hi Blastro. :-) Yeah the Zx Spectrum with the rubber keys. My mate had one and I used to cycle round his house on a Saturday morning and wait to play on his games. These were pretty exciting times, though like you say they took an age to load. Believe it or not, I still have the old Atari complete with a few games, I know I could flog them but keep them for nostalgia.

I wouldn't classify my self as a proper gamer mind, I love GTA5 and some of the Burnout series but I'm not quick witted enough for much else. Should stick to Wii games really! ;-)

message 342: by Blastronaut (last edited Dec 20, 2018 05:11AM) (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments It seems like that loading noise that the Spectrum made when installing a game will forever be tattooed in my mind, y'know, complete with those horizontal red lines around the border, which then turned to, like a quicker scramble of yellow and blue (or black?) when it really got going. Pretty sure Carter USM used a sample of that same loading noise on one of their albums - 101 Damnations Maybe?
Ya got good gaming taste Foe; I mean GTA's a riot, and I got tonnes of respect for the Burnout games, tho I gotta admit I preferred 2,3 and 4, rather than Burnout Paradise which seems to be the most popular.

Yep, I'm afraid we're getting on now dude. The young uns simply paste us at most games. I would add, mind, that I'm possibly still the champ of the house at FIFA... just about. And they can't yet touch me at Forza Motorsport but that's about it... and that's probably more to do with the fact that our older kids (youngest loves FIFA but still learning) have little interest in footie and racing games rather than me retaining much in the way of skills.

'Champion of the house' !? How sad is that??? : )

Brass Neck | 3979 comments Crash? Spyro? Ratchet & Clank? I did indulge (and enjoy) in some platformers a couple of decades ago but they don't seem to do those anymore? Anyway, there are gigs to go to, music to listen to .......

message 344: by Blastronaut (last edited Dec 22, 2018 07:17AM) (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Hello Brass. If it wasn't for Ratchet & Clank, I'd be saying 'they don't make em like that anymore'. There's been quite a few outings for R&C over the years tho I don't know if there's gonna be more. There surely has to be, as they've been - apart from being excellent - quite successful. They're the only games that come to mind that've kinda 'filled the gap' between Spyro/Crash/Jak & Daxter gems of old and now.
Nowadays it seems that most platform games are left to the indie developers to do - which's no bad thing as they're putting some really good stuff out; just like the old 2D games but much better looking. Apart from that, we're getting 'makeovers' of older titles like Shadow Of The Colossus, and indeed Spyro The Dragon and Crash Bandicoot.

Can't do owt about the gig thing dude (and I wun't want ya too) but you can play music at the same time as playing a game!! : )

Hey I can't preach - a couple of sessions a week on consoles is plenty for me at this point. If I got out more (some would say 'Got a life' but I've lived enough to fill several lives in days gone by so won't grumble) I meself would possibly not have even that above time time left for gaming.

message 345: by Blastronaut (last edited Dec 22, 2018 10:28AM) (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Ten top 00s tunes/mixes then. As usual, there's hundreds that should get a mention but these ten couldn't possibly be left out of any 2000-2010 dance/electronica list of mine, and some (if not all) of em were nailed-on regulars in my live setlist...

..Just a shame my live sets never saw much more than the odd hedonistic BBQ but... well, that's another story.

Not sure it needs mentioning but with this being MY take on electronica, these 'ere tunes lean very much towards the 4/4 policy, and certainly be stuff that one can dance to (tho the Sven Vath track has other 'properties' so to speak.) Thus, there be a lack of anything 'ambient-ish' I'm afraid...

Coatnoise (Dave Clark Remix) - Midfield General
La Tromba (Original Mix) - Lake & Lys
Everybody Freakin (Original Mix) - Dirty South ft MYNC Project
That Ibiza Track (Vocal Mix) - Mitomi Tokoto
Lifting Me Higher (DJ DLG Huge Mix) - Harry Choo Choo Romero & Jose Nunez
Not Exactly - Deadmau5
Love Sensation (Eddie Thoneick's Sensation Mix) - Eddie Thoneick and Kurd Maverick
Latin Fever - Wolfgang Gartner
Reeperbahn - Pryda
My Name Is Barbarella (Deep Dish Armageddon Breakdown Mix) - Sven Vath

Mostly electro/tech house but if you want a classic slice of progressive house (some might call it trance) the last Sven Vath track will do ya. In fact, I really do encourage everyone and anyone to give it a try... especially at night, lights off, headphones on, volume up. It will transport you!!
Awesome tune - one of the very best of any genre.

A 2010-2020(ish) list may follow at some point... if I remember.

message 346: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22129 comments Blastro - I'm going to pass your list on to my son. He's been in love with Eric Prydz since forever so he will probably know many of the other mixes. He was aged 16 to 26 in this decade so they will surely resonate with him.

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Hello Val. Yes, pass it on with my greetings! Some folk no doubt judge Prydz (negatively) by his chart success but personally I reckon he's put out some quality stuff, especially if one's looking for upbeat music to 'get down' to. Also, the radio edit tunes that get into the charts tend to differ from the versions that get played in the clubs. He's done some mighty fine tunes under the alias 'Cirez D' too.
For some reason (maybe it was even a selfish reason?) I never got around to recording a mix of the tunes - like the above - that I played live and I really should. When the CDJs get dusted down (assuming they still work!) I shall let ya know when I get around to recording said set. There's so much stuff I planned to mix and record but never did, it'd be a shame if it all got left alone. I mean I'm no bad DJ, not by a long stretch...

I'll try not to delete that self-compliment. Ya don't hear em often from me. : )
