Blastronaut | 1061 comments Ha ha, my above list was the kinda post that, back on Amazon, would've received a few 'No' clicks... if for nowt else, then for the inclusion of Duff Mac...

message 105: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments :) i had no idea who matt freeman or sami yaffa were, blastro, but i do now! i definitely prefer bass to guitar. might do drummers next!

message 106: by Blastronaut (new)

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Yep, can't do without drums and a decent bass-line. Well I will endeavor to keep the lists coming. Might do a few 'films' lists by genre, crime, sci-fi, western etc. A tad off topic mind.

Top ten porn films? : )

Only kidding, I couldn't think of ten porn titles. Can't think of any off top of me head - apart from the 'soft' stuff like the Window Cleaner titles from the 70s - but I don't expect anyone to believe that. : )

message 107: by Craig White (new)

Craig White | 6727 comments nothing's off topic! lists of anything welcome!

dunno if 'pink flamingos' counts as a porn film, but if it does, then that's my favourite!

message 116: by Gordon (last edited Jul 05, 2018 10:14AM) (new)

Gordon (skiiltan) | 2940 comments The Muppet Christmas Carol is superb. It might be the only one of Martin's choices that would get into my top 50 (although I think Rear Window might also make it)

I'm not a huge film buff, and there are loads of films from the 40s, 50s and 60s that I still haven't got around to watching, so this would be a provisional list:

Le Bal (Ettore Scola)
Cabaret (Bob Fosse)
Jean de Florette/Manon des Sources (Claude Berri)
2001: A Space Odyssey (Stanley Kubrick)
Le Dîner de Cons (Francis Veber)
Crimes & Misdemeanours (Woody Allen)
The Apartment (Billy Wilder)
Once Upon a Time in America (Sergio Leone)
The Player (Robert Altman)
The Dead (John Huston)

Not sure what genre one would put Trainspotting into - Crime? Comedy? Drama? Gonna have to do my ten fave flicks (in which said film would certainly appear) but that'd be a tough one.

Blastronaut | 1061 comments Apols Tim I forgot to put the date up. The 80s one with Pacino; one of Al's finest moments imo, and there's been a few. Reckon I saw the original as a kid but don't remember owt about it. Should really check it out I guess.
Despite sharing the name, and the fact they're both about gangsters, I believe the two films are unalike?

Thanks, I'll look him up.

Philip K Dick, of course, (singling out one work is a problem) but as I said the list could go on... and on... Maybe I should do another list of authors who've written several favourites but then, I don't want to monopolise the entire thread!
