Now...moving on to the third book in the Wyattsville Series and one that I actually believe is the most powerful book I have ever written...PASSING THROUGH PERFECT.
This is Benjamin Church's story - it's one of bigotry and injustice that will make you both love and hate the characters. The story is set in the 1940's and it is told mostly by Benjamin, a young black soldier returning from the war only to discover that nothing in Grinder's Corner has changed. It is just as it's always been - poor and with little to offer a man.
Benjamin is a sharecropper who will spend his whole life sweating and slaving to do little more than put food on the table, but that's how things are in Alabama. Benjamin is better off than most, he has a wife, a boy he adores and a house that doesn't leak rain. He considers himself a lucky man, until the fateful night that changes everything.
The challenges here were to tell this story in a young black man's voice and to give it the credibility it so justly deserves. If you only read one Wyattsville book, make it this one. You'll come away appreciating your life so much more.
Tomorrow I will be giving away an e-book copy of Passing through Perfect to one lucky winner chosen from those who comment here and in the Facebook group.
