Finished Lord of Emperors. Rated it 5 stars. It was a great read here's my review. Should finish Goblin Quest today or tomorrow. I read To Ride Hell’s Chasm back in November, but I hope to contribute in the discussion. My list for June is Children of Blood and Bone, because it came in at the library, Throne of the Crescent Moon, Darkfever, Scythe, and finallyAge of Swords with anticipation of the release of Age of War.

Nice list!
Nice list!

Currently reading Circe and Norse Mythology. Of the two, I'm enjoying Circe more but they are both good.
I just got some books I had on hold from the library so next up when I finish these two are Stardust and The Traitor Baru Cormorant. I also really want to get around to reading Patricia A. McKillip's Riddle-Master soon.

A good trilogy. And a classic of the genre.

I just finished Throne of the Crescent Moon last night and loved it. It's nice to read a fantasy with a culture closer to my own.

Oh, that's good to hear! I plan on (buddy) reading it in August and get to the next one soon after (I think the release date is end of August?).

Yeah that's definitely an under served culture in mainstream fantasy. Are there some other books that scratched that itch for you personally?

Books with Chinese/Japanese culture
* Under Heaven
* River of Stars - These two are by Guy Gavriel Kay.
* A Hero Born - I nominated this book once for our group read. Classic wuxia fantasy by Jin Yong. The story takes place some years after Kay's River of Stars and the protagonist from RoS features prominently in this book.
* Silver Phoenix - my review
* The Initiate Brother - my review
* Throne of Jade - The second book in the Temeraire series
Books with Arabic/Islamic culture
* The Lions of Al-Rassan - I first read this when I was new to the fantasy genre and I didn't realize that the sun/moon/star worshipers were Christians/Jews/Muslims, hahaha.
* The Desert Spear - Second book in the Demon Cycle
* The Will of the Wanderer - First book in the Rose of the Prophet trilogy
I promise it was just a coincidence that I nominated The Lions of Al-Rassan this month for August. I just really like GGK's work and thought it would be a good fit for the FBC.

If you haven't read them yet, you might check out [author:Howard Andrew Jones|510991]' The Desert of Souls and The Bones of the Old Ones, both of which are historical fantasy set in or around 8th century Baghdad.
Also Elizabeth Bear's Eternal Sky books (Range of Ghosts, etc.) are set in a secondary-world fantasy version of the central Asian steppes.
Oh, thank you for the list, Femmy!
I would add to the list of books with 'unusual cultural inspiration':
*The Desert of Souls
*Twelve Kings in Sharakhai
*City of Bones
Haven't read them but I heard great things :)
PS: City of Bones was my second choice for this month's nomination. We make quite the team, Tnkw01 ;)

Have fun, it's a great read! I already pre-ordered the next one. I think you're right, sometime mid to late August it comes out.
Finished Children of Blood and Bone. It was great, gave it 5 stars. Started Throne of the Crescent Moon.

For now though i'll finish the Night Angei trilogy withBeyond the Shadows
Finished Children of Blood and Bone in audio, which I enjoyed but didn't like as much as you, Tnkw01, and Age of Swords in ebook.
Starting Twelve Kings in Sharakhai (ebook) and Swordspoint (audio). I'm so excited right now, it's ridiculous ^_^

For now though The Last Four Things

Now I'm reading the prequel book to the Witchlands series, Sightwitch.

Yes, Red Sister is not linked to his previous series. Though it's not my personal favorite, lots of people seem to like Red Sister & Grey Sister better than Broken Empire/Red Queen's War.

Thanks Virginie thats helpful. I didnt want to start with a new author from book 7

Right now I'm reading The Library at Mount Char, which is a singularly strange and morbid book. Luckily I have a morbid sense of humor and don't mind dark themes, so I'm thoroughly enjoying it.
Jess, The Library at Mount Char looks like something I would really like. May I suggest Dreamer by Daniel Quinn. It seems similar to this book. It is a great read with an ending that will blow you away.

That sounds really interesting, adding it to my TBR.

Ho hum, you can't win them all.
Onto Red Sister

Finished my monthly PNR book, Succubus Dreams, and I'm now starting The Last Wish.
Audiobook-wise, I'm almost through Swordspoint which is delightful, and will start Alcatraz Versus the Scrivener's Bones for my author challenge after that.

I'm glad you liked Red Sister :D
If you ever want to dive into Mark Lawrence's other trilogies, I highly recommend you read The Broken Empire before The Red Queen's War. There's plenty of easter eggs, and, if you like to theorize & pay attention to the details, you can see the big picture emerging. There's a subtle web of hidden players and alliances you only get hints of.

I will definitely move on to his other books, i'm totally sold on him as an author after just 1 book (very rare for me). Thanks for heads up about the order to read them - I would've been irritated to get that wrong! If theyre half as good as Red Sister i've got some happy reading ahead....
