Which books were your favorite in May?

message 2: by Narilka (new)

Narilka | 3360 comments White Hot was my favorite this month. Followed by The Spider's War (not a buddy read) and Grey Sister.

Saul the Heir of Isauldur (krinnok) | 209 comments At the top:
The Broken Sword by Poul Anderson
Loved it, highly recommended.

Hellboy Omnibus Volume 1 Seed of Destruction by Mike Mignola
My first dive into the Hellboy universe, and definitely worth the time.

The King of Elfland's Daughter by Lord Dunsany
Kicked off my current fad of reading old-fashioned styled fairy tales

Books I DEVOURED! Sleep be damned.

Stay Awake by Dan Chaon
The City of Mirrors (The Passage, #3) by Justin Cronin
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara

Highly anticipated books that DELIVERED!

Memories of Ice (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #3) by Steven Erikson
Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive, #2) by Brandon Sanderson so far... I'm still reading.

Miche | 3175 comments No 5 stars this month for me. However, the following books were really good:

Caliban's War (The Expanse, #2) by James S.A. Corey - I met Chrisjen Avasarala. I want her as my bbf.
Circe by Madeline Miller - great read for fans of Greek Mythology
White Hot (Hidden Legacy, #2) by Ilona Andrews - I was surprised how much I enjoyed this one.

I just noticed all three books have strong female characters.

message 8: by Tammie (new)

Tammie | 4372 comments My top book for May was actually a short story.
Fat Farm

I also really enjoyed these two books.
Something in the Water
Dark Run

message 11: by Bea (new)

Bea | 2052 comments 1. The Handmaid's Tale - amazing, shocking, thought-provoking!
2. A Closed and Common Orbit - not as good as the first one in my opinion, but still amazing
3. Circe - I really need to delve into greek mythology more, it's so fascinating

message 12: by Mayim (new)

Mayim de Vries | 2948 comments For the sake of simplicity let us assume that this year each month the first place goes to the Malazan novel. May is sponsored by letter M like Memories of Ice.

Honourable mentions:

1. White Hot - restored my balance after Malazan

2. Theft of Swords was also light, smart and funny.

Last, but not least, while I am continuing with The Fox into June (I cannot stop reading after the last plot twist!), I can see already that it is going to be as good if not better than its predecessor which was one of the best hidden gems on Goodreads that I discovered thanks to FBR. :)

message 13: by Chris (new)

Chris (haughtc) | 1769 comments Emperor of Thorns - Wasn't as crazy about it as the previous books in the series, but was still fun.

Knee-Deep in Grit: Two Bloody Years of Grimdark Fiction - Still reading, but these stories have been pretty intriguing.

The Monster at the End of this Book - I got this for my grandson and read it to him. Loved it as a kid and thought he would too (he's 4). He did, enough to make me read it to him several times and he even "read" it back to me.

The Monster at the End of this Book was my absolute favorite growing up. I seriously need to buy that for my kids.

message 15: by Chris (new)

Chris (haughtc) | 1769 comments Yes, I remember being caught up in the story when I was little. Kale though, could see where it was going immediately. (view spoiler)

He still loved it though.

message 16: by Petrik (last edited Jun 01, 2018 10:06AM) (new)

Petrik (petrikleo) | 1546 comments I read 10 books in May!

Two received a 4.5 stars (rounded up): City of Stairs and No Good Dragon Goes Unpunished. Both are in my favorite shelves!

1) Smart kid
2) I like that you put that in spoilers, as if the people on this thread would be upset that a Sesame Street book was "spoiled" for them. That seriously made me laugh too hard.

I would be upset. I haven't read that one yet. ;P

message 20: by Chris (new)

Chris (haughtc) | 1769 comments Well hey, when he did it, everyone looked at me funny because I was calling out "SPOILER!"

Diana Stormblessed (dashichka) | 3909 comments Lol :-)

message 22: by Silvana (new)

Silvana (silvaubrey) | 1818 comments My top reads are all in different format:
Wrath of Empire - a novel
The Legend of Korra: Turf Wars Part One - a graphic novel
Fandom for Robots - a short story

message 24: by Veronica (last edited Jun 08, 2018 01:43PM) (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) | 3613 comments Memories of Ice for me.

I started Kushiel's Mercy with two days left in May so it bled over into June but that was a five star read for me too.

Two, back-to-back five star reads for me...I don't think that's ever happened to me since I joined GR and started tracking this stuff.

Honorable mention goes to Force of Nature.

message 25: by Slytherpuff (new)

Slytherpuff Night of Cake & Puppets
