SOLVED. Fiction - Drama set in the bayou. [s]

I read this book I believe in the early to mid 90's. A young lady marries a man who abuses her, she has two young daughters. His large family is run by the matriarch mother. She is trying to escape from her husband and be free from abuse and save her daughters from incest.
There is a scene where she is fishing for crabs with a ham bone and plotting how to escape the family while healing from a beating.
Spoilers: At the end of the book, her husbands brother, who she was close to, grants her, her freedom from the family with her daughters. For some reason I think the younger brothers name was Dallas. I think the book title was the families last name.
