Amy (dapperdazzler) I read this book sometime between 2005 - 2010. It may have been one of those retro science fiction novels, and the front depictions may have had something to do with an Earth landscape and a space ship in greens and blues.

It involved a small group of humans on a Mission returning to Earth from a colony on Titan where most of humanity has been living for thousands of years. They return to Earth to find out of it's habitable again, only to find that all the creatures have an eerie intelligence. They somehow discover that when Earth was originally abandoned, some humans chose to stay behind, but because the Earth's surface was too toxic for them to survive, they created these underwater domed colonies. When the Mission arrives, these underwater civilisations have been gone for centuries, but their last act was to sort of insert their intelligence into all the species on the planet so that in some form humanity can live on.

Thank you for your time.

A teenage boy and girl return to Earth from Titan after many years when the Earth recovered its ecosystem after it became uninhabitable to humans (seems so relevant to today's readers considering what's happening with climate change, like Monica Hughes' books, yet sadly Victor Kelleher isn't popular. I really like this one though! I haven't read any of Kelleher's books before). The spaceship has a sentient computer (very amusing; similar but different personality to that in the movie Flight of the Navigator, the computer became childlike after sustaining damage during entry to Earth's atmosphere).
The earth's creatures do have an eerie intelligence.

Oh wow, I think this might be it, thank you so much. I'd almost given up hope! Cheers.

I don't think this is it, but it sounds like an interesting book so I'm going to give it a read anyways! Thank you.
