I enjoyed it too, and I'll possibly continue with it (along with the rest of my TBR) but I did have a bit of a problem with the lack of female characters in the book, fortunately the movie rectifies this with Linda Hunt replacing one of the characters.

I was in the middle of reading the 2nd book,
, when the group picked this for the read. I thought Relic was great! And the second one is just as good. I love Pendergrast and want to continue this series. I think there's 17 books so far?
When I want to picture it in my mind I see a dinosaur with fur and it reminds me of the raptors in the Jurassic Park movies where they could open doors. I remember that I saw the movie a long time ago, but it didn't leave that much of impression on me as I always thought the book was better. (view spoiler)

Yeah I saw that last night when I added the next book to my TBR on here. Quite a long series! If I continue to enjoy the books though it'll be a fun time :)

Yeah, and one of the female characters was completely useless. I liked Margo though.

There are some great stand-alone books with Pendergast in them, as well as a few "trilogies"!!! Can't wait to see which are your favorites.

I'd completely forgotten how self-absorbed and useless Coffey was. What a jackass! I'm sorry he didn't end up being a victim.Loved Frock, Margo was great, Pendergast is fantastic as always. I'd also forgotten how unassuming he is even though he's such a badass.
I can't remember why I read five or six books in the series and then stopped. I'm definitely going to reread and then catch up on the rest. I've got about 10 things on my list before I can start Reliquary though.

In my humble opinion, Reliquary wasn't nearly as "great" as the Relic, but Pendergast is fantastic as always. :)

The series and the characters, for the most part, just get better and better. Personally, I thought Reliquary was even better than Relic.
I am glad I read it but won't be carrying on with other books in the Pendergast series. It was a little too formulaic for me and not enough characterisation, foreshadowing etc etc. When it came out it would have been perfect for me but tastes change.
But never mind sooo many books on my TBR so not adding any more is a good thing :)
Glad everyone else liked it.
I am about 80% complete, and although Pendergast is a good detective, I don't think I like him as a character. The book is definitely better than the movie. I think I may continue with book 2 to see if Pendergast changes as a character or to see if he changes my mind.
I loved this book and will absolutely be continuing on in the series. The mixture of adventure/horror with biology/science is my favorite trope.Regarding the epilogue: (view spoiler)
I really liked Frock, Margo and Pendergast as well. I especially was happy that (view spoiler)
Jamie, you'll be happy to know that Preston and Child never bog the story down with a lot of your spoiler throughout the series.

Awesome! Count me in!
I'm almost done with this. I'll definitely finish it today but hopefully during my lunch break which is now. I've already placed the second Pendergast book on hold at the library. I have to take my son there this evening to return his books so hopefully they get it ready to quickly so I can just grab it tonight. *fingers crossed*
WARNING!!! This series is addicting. I read Book One here earlier this month and I’m currently on Book Six.

Oh noes! Thanks for the warning!! :-)

Lol, thanks for the warning! I definitely plan on continuing with it!

Not the most likeable guy.

In a 'Can I slap you now' sort of way? LOL
I have started book 2, so we'll see.
eta: Maybe Coffey will show up and I'll get my unfullfilled wish from book 1.
Starting Ch 52. I am loving this book, and I'm grateful to the group for picking it. This isn't a story I'd typically pick up, and I'm so pleasantly surprised by it. And, yes, Pendergast rules. I really like many of the characters - DAgosta, Margo, Frock, Smithback. I love the scientific elements, the museum setting, the staff banding together. Good stuff.
isanythingopenI really enjoyed this book and the fact that it took place in a museum. I wasn't too sure about Pendergast and I even commented earlier that I probably won't read any more books with him in them, BUT I think after completing this one, I will read another one. You were right, he does grow on you
I love the Pendergast character. Keep reading until you get to the character Constance. I love her even more.

Prendergast does grow on you, and he is in other books. But it is weird that he wasn't in the movie.
I still love that this was set in a museum. Such a fun place for a horror story, or other kinds of stories, to be set.
Is everyone who's finished still up for the movie this weekend? I've already pre-warned my darling non-horror fan husband he'll be sitting through it with me, after all, I've had to sit through Peaky Blinders all week! (Not that Cillian Murphy was hard on the eyes though...)
I'm leaving for vacation tomorrow so I watched it last night! Entertaining flick but the book is obviously way better.
well due to my messed up sleeping schedule right now I just watched the movie.I agree with Jamie that the book was better but I did still really enjoy the movie.
(view spoiler)
Loved Margo and Frock! Loved the graphics and seeing the monster. I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't that, thought it looked great though! (view spoiler)
Also i'm home alone and it's night-time. I have no respect for my mental health or sleep.
Over-all though I did really enjoy it :)
Just finished the movie! A decent romp, but lots of corners cut, of course. Fun to see the Field Museum as the location after many visits there. The creature looked different than my mental picture, much more insect-like. Felt strange to be missing Pendergast.
I watched it Friday night with my darling patient husband, it was just as much fun as I remember and I was surprised how well the CG held up after this long. Loved Margo and D'Agosta and especially loved Cuthbert (Linda Hunt) as the book was seriously missing more female characters.

I gave it 4 stars. I see why you thought of Michi Lena, when Pendergast mentioned his wife.
That ending has me definitely wanting to continue on with the series.
