Annerlee | 2871 comments Going to read The Demolished Man next
The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester

Margo | 11628 comments I have some Bester on my wishlist but I haven't tried that author yet. Interested to hear how it goes Annerlee.

I'm glad you enjoyed the story. I think that series is a lot of fun.

Margo | 11628 comments I got a bit bored with Children Of The Deterrent so I put it aside til tomorrow. It is a fun story but it does sag a little in the middle.

I am now listening to The Absolutist by John Boyne for hand.

Kristie | 19137 comments I finished The Summer Children (The Collector, #3) by Dot Hutchison for feather and I'm reading (listening to) Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple for glasses.

I may be able to get through one more than I expected this week, since I finished The Summer Children sooner than expected. I'm not sure. I'll plan to start either The Widow's Watcher by Eliza Maxwell for red coat or Dark Water (DCI Erika Foster, #3) by Robert Bryndza for hand and hope I'm able to finish on time. I'll certainly be able to get through my third book, which was my original goal.

Lanelle | 4020 comments It's very quiet. Does that mean everyone is too busy reading to talk?

message 107: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Reading and enjoying the heatwave here in ireland 😊

I agree Lanelle, it is unusually quite for a toppler (I've done a grand total of 3 team ones! LOL.) I'm reading The Absolutist which is every bit as good as I'd heard. It is very sad. Set in and after ww1. I am about 60% through it.

My next book will depend on whether Kristie say that this on is OK dragon His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire, #1) by Naomi Novik . I see the dragon first but not sure that everyone would agree 😕

Kristie | 19137 comments That'll work, Margo. :)

message 109: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Thanks Kristie :-)

message 110: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I finished The Absolutist by John Boyne and what a wonderful story! It is going straight onto my favorites shelf 😊

I have started 2 others. His Majesty's Dragon (Temeraire, #1) by Naomi Novik I must listen to on my phone and Roses of May (The Collector, #2) by Dot Hutchison I can listen to on my Alexa (i.e. hands free) which is handy while I do other things.

How are you all getting on?

Hello everyone! Wow, lots of books being read ;-). Sorry I am only just checking in now - work has been a bit manic to say the least.

I have been reading and was able to finish two books so far:-

A Portable Shelter by Kirsty Logan for Sea Shells and An Apple a Day A Memoir of Love and Recovery from Anorexia by Emma Woolf for Apple.

Will pop over to the reporting thread in a mo.

Not sure if I am going to have a chance to pick anything else up but will see how the rest of my day goes.

Kristie | 19137 comments I'm almost done with Where'd You Go, Bernadette by Maria Semple . I plan to finish today. I probably won't have time to finish a fourth book, but a may start one.

I'll be working in that spare room today, so I can re-start my audio of Dark Water (DCI Erika Foster, #3) by Robert Bryndza and see how far I get. I may need to turn it off to concentrate at times, so probably won't finish on time. I think I have the whispersync of that one. If I do, I'll be able to read more this evening.

Trudy (trudyan) | 1779 comments I finished my second book, The Crow Eaters by Bapsi Sidhwa for feather. I didn’t have a lot of time to read this week. That will be it for me, for this toppler.

Annerlee | 2871 comments Lanelle... Did I see Patience the dog on your book cover? How was Bubba?

Annerlee | 2871 comments Just finished The Demolished Man by Alfred Bester which was pretty good, if confusing at times!

I'm half way through my audiobook and hope to read one more on ebook. Off to see which is shortest ( lol )

Lynn | 2974 comments Hello all, sorry I've not been around chatting but one of the food festivals I organise is this weekend so I've been super busy and not on goodreads. I have been reading though and about to finish my 3rd book this evening (which will most likely be my last for this challenge).

I will report a bit later once I've finished the last book.

message 117: by Valerie (new)

Valerie Whew, been a busy week and not as much time to read as I expected and then I decided on the spur of the moment the other day to do the Color Run 5k with a friend tomorrow morning (We're definitely walking not running though) so I basically have to finish A Natural History of Dragons (The Memoirs of Lady Trent, #1) by Marie Brennan tonight! I think I can do it though, it's so fun so far. It reminds me a bit of the Amelia Peabody series but with dragons instead of archaeology.

Anyway, I'm so impressed with how many books you all have read!

Lanelle | 4020 comments Annerlee wrote: "Lanelle... Did I see Patience the dog on your book cover? How was Bubba?"

Yep, that's Precious. Bubba and the Missing Woman (Bubba Snoddy, #3) by C.L. Bevill .

message 119: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19137 comments So, I completely forgot that we had plans for this evening, so I lost a couple of hours of reading time. I also didn't get very far into Dark Water (DCI Erika Foster, #3) by Robert Bryndza earlier today, so I most likely won't finish on time.

On the bright side, I got quite a bit done today and moved around some rooms, so now I am ready for my furniture delivery tomorrow. :) Phew!

message 120: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I finished Roses of May and I didn't really enjoy it. I find that often hapoens after a book I love, my next read is disappointing.

I will not have time to finish His Majesty's Dragon. I had forgotten we must stop reading today!

message 121: by Lanelle (new)

Lanelle | 4020 comments I just finished my last book and reported it. I'm curious. Did we find all the items on the list?

message 122: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments I could be wrong but I don't remember seeing any dragonflies or mason jars anyway :-)

Thanks team mates, that was good fun and got a few titles off of my TBR!

Annerlee | 2871 comments Hi team. I'm a bit late to the farewell party, but I couldn't get online yesterday. We have a new router and it wasn't playing ball - it locked me out (apparently) - and I didn't have the time to engage in the ensuing 'debate' / fixing of the thing with my other half - too busy trying to ignore matters and finish The Scarlet Pimpernel by Emmuska Orczy ! I think I got my priorities right.

Anyway I finished the above with 18 mins to spare and finished my listen to Hag-Seed The Tempest Retold by Margaret Atwood earlier that morning. This is the first book by Margart Attwood I've ever read. I gave it 5 stars.

To sum up my toppler week: it was a bit of a roller coaster ride for me, with all sorts of life things getting in the way of my reading (unexpected visitors, general hectic at work, missed buses and subsequent loss of reading time whilst hitch-hiking, intermittent inernet issues and general stress at home). However I did manage to read 5 books. I found 3 three star, 1 four and 1 five star read. I can use at least 4 of them for the zodiac challenge too.

We were a fairly quiet team, but got on with the reading despite the obstacles put in our way. It seems every one of us had at least one obstacle to contend with.

Well done everyone. And thanks for the excellent scorekeeping Valerie!

Lanelle | 4020 comments Kristie, thanks for another great Toppler!

Valerie, thank you for keeping our score!
