Thanks for your pick Anita- I look forward to reading Requiem for a Dream (added to the list in 2008). I had it my to-read list already, but about 3 years out! So moving way up the list.
I read Shields' The Stone Diaries a few years ago and liked it a lot, but don't think I'll take on Unless as well. I see my 4 GR friends who've read it all rated it 4 or 5 stars.

Oh, I'm so happy there are a few others who want to read Requiem for a Dream . . .I tried to at least go for a highly rated one in hopes some of us will like it. It's a little bit of pressure picking the book, lol!

Based on my impression of the film it's going to be pretty dark and grim at times- hopefully there's some humor along with it.

I've started Requiem... about a sixth of the way in so far. The dopers are reminding me of Trainspotting, which was written about 20 years later.
