outlining with a spreadsheet

The PEN/Faulkner Foundation blog posted a link to the OpenCulture blog, which had picked up a post from the Endpapers blog that featured an image of a scrap of J. K. Rowling's spreadsheet for The Order of the Phoenix. I thought it was an instructive illustration of how to outline a novel—in progress—so I stole it too for my blog. I like this visual method of outlining, personally. Some of the other recommended methods are backwards from how my brain works.

Anybody have a favorite method?

I'm not answering your question as I'm not a writer (yet!) but an editor/proofreader. But thanks for posting this. I was fascinated by J.K. Rowling's outline and enjoyed your blog.
