To shamelessly self-promote, my novel, I'm NO P. I., is a murder/mystery in which a "regular" guy gets roped-in into soling a murder.

I have read many of Quillracer's suggested series and they are very good. Here is my review of book 1 in the Phryne Fisher series:

Great list
Not to argue with you, Alan, but 'T' wanted books with main characters who weren't police, detective, PIs, or lawyers.
Not to argue with you, Alan, but 'T' wanted books with main characters who weren't police, detective, PIs, or lawyers.Christie's Hercule Poirot was a PI and the Beresford twins were intelligence officers.
Sayer's Lord Peter Wimsey was a criminologist.
Marsh's Roderick Alleyn was a police inspector.
And while you certainly are entitled to your opinion, I tried all three authors you mentioned several times each and found them dull and tedious every time.

I am still new to reading Mysteries and I am loving it. I'm enjoying all the procedural stuff and wishing I was a detective, or a PI, yet not a lawyer ;)
BUT I was hoping that you wonderful people might give me some books to read that don't have a cop, detective, PI or lawyer solving the crime.
I prefer edgy to cozy if possible. But ultimately any ideas would be awesome. Much appreciated. I'm really enjoying being on goodreads :)
Have a wonderful weekend!
