SOLVED. Children's/ YA book. Ballerina with red shoes? Possible Spoilers. [s]

I read this book at a library in 2013-2014. I think it was in the Children's section, but it could have been YA. The book was hardcover, red with scroll or ribbon on the cover.

It was about a teen ballerina who received similar shoes to a famous ballerina. Something happened to that famous dancer, the teen was constantly comparing what was happening to her and what happened to the other ballerina. I think they were preparing for the same show.

There was heavy competition with another ballerina who sabotages the debut of the main character. She falls through the stage and injures her legs so badly, the slippers need to be cut off her feet. There was something significant about the slippers, they made her dance better, but they were also detrimental to her. She was thankful they were destroyed.


It's similar to The Red Shoes, and is not Dancing in Red Shoes will Kill you.

I did actually end up finding this book. It’s “The Scarlet Stockings” by Charlotte Kandel. Thank you for replying
