Interview with a vampire is a reread for me, but it has been many years. Bird Box is on my TBR, hoping to get to it soon I've heard many good things about it.

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments Finished Bird Box last night at a bonfire and it was really good. Kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Definitely would recommend for anyone wanting something really suspenseful. :) I'm so excited to start you guys! We're gonna have a great time :)

Reminder to everyone, feel free to ask questions, especially for this first week or so. No such thing as a silly question here :)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1976 comments Less than 10 hours! I'm going to be traveling when it starts (driving), so I will get an audiobook all set up to start once it becomes time! (Though I wish it started like two hours sooner so it would be at the start of the travels rather than toward the end :-P .... but oh well)

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments Nice! My husband is out of town visiting a friend, so I'm going to have all day tomorrow and part of Sunday to read and spend time on here with you guys :)

message 60: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments I'll be doing yard work most of tomorrow, so that means a long time with my audiobook :D

message 61: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments Whoo hoo! I wish I could get into audiobooks more. I've only found one that I actually like and I might use it for this challenge because I never finished the book. It was Sleeping Giants. I'm so jealous of people who can listen to audiobooks :P

message 62: by Kaley (last edited May 11, 2018 07:28AM) (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1976 comments Audiobooks are the best! I used to not like them much but now I love them. I will say, the narrator has a LOT to do with it. A good narrator can make all the difference.

But I do usually only listen to them while driving or doing activities where I can listen but not read -- any other time I like curling up with a good book (or my Kindle).

I totally understand the narrator thing. I was listening to Strange the Dreamer, which was done by a male narrator. He was really pleasant to listen to, BUT he also did the female voices and it just threw me off so much. He couldn't really differentiate between the different women and it was just so obviously not a woman saying it. I had to stop listening to it halfway through. Planning on continuing it in a hardback copy I picked up from the library.

message 64: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments I used to listen to audiobooks a lot when I had a long commute. Now that I work from home I rarely do. I should though since I like to knit and that would be a great way to multi-task!

That would be so perfect! I have a long commute, but unless the audiobook is on a CD, I don't have any way to listen to the book :( It doesn't have an AUX jack and I can't do the cassette tape to plug my phone/iPod either. It's a bummer for sure.

message 66: by Snowtulip (new)

Snowtulip | 4679 comments It took me some time to get into audiobooks, and then a GR friends told me to try The Help on audio, and that is what hooked me. But I do stop audios when I can't handle the narrator, I always try the sample first.

message 67: by SandyC (new)

SandyC (sandyc88) | 1193 comments Yes, the narrator is critical to the enjoyment!
I tried to listen to Room and i couldn't get past 5 minutes of the woman doing the little boy voice. It was super cringey!!

message 68: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharon_alexandr) | 544 comments I love audio books too! I have a pretty long commute and the audio books make it go so much faster. And a narrator can definitely make or break the book. I've started books on audio and switched to actual reading because I just couldn't listen to the person reading out loud.

Samantha, if you have a lighter in your car and bluetooth capabilities on your phone, they make these transmitters that you can plug into the lighter to set up an am/fm frequency that will connect your phone to the radio via bluetooth. I looked into getting one for my husband when he had his last car because it didn't have AUX jack either. I never got one so I don't know how well they work, but I know they are sold on Amazon.

My boyfriend has one of those and the kind he got (I'm not sure of the brand) works pretty well! It only got a little questionable when we were traveling and reached an area where the FM frequency we chose was an actual station -- but then you can just switch FM frequency if needed.

message 71: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments Sharon, I do have one of those, but I live in SoCal. In Iowa, it worked great because there weren’t that many radio stations, so it was easy to find static. In SoCal, especially around the LA area, it’s really hard to find a static channel. Once I do find one, I can’t really drive too far without it going out. 😞

Louise | 3330 comments Spells Information

The spells have been posted and there are 191 letters in total. We will look to make the most use out of all books posted to maximise points.

Below is a breakdown of the letter by total. There are a large number of the vowels (as usual) but especially I, O, and U, which I find the hardest to find. You might keep those in mind when you are choosing books to read! Remember, title/author/series/main and secondary characters all work for this.

Snowtulip | 4679 comments Samantha wrote: "Hey everyone! How's the reading going? I'm about to jump into The Sorcerer's Stone. I've been dying to get start for over a week."

Reading is going good, finished a few quick easy reads and have been doing yard work while listening to Children of Blood and Bone. For some reason, it took me longer than I thought it would to start getting into that one.

I'm waiting for the library audio of The Sorceror's Stone, so hopefully I'll be joining you soon for that one :D

Do you use a kindle?

Ghost in the Stacks I am not going to re-read HP, but will check out some Buddy reads and see if I can get some extra points that way.

Ghost in the Stacks Also where is the spell-out tracker, this way I can see which letters we are missing to fill in. I usally need a visual.

I do use a Kindle :) That's how I borrow a lot of library books since the closest libraries to me aren't convenient to get to and from work. The loan immediately expires on the date they're due so I never have to worry about late fees. Plus, when I get the book renewed, it leaves off at the last place I was at in the book, which is super handy.

As far as I'm aware, we haven't necessarily picked out any specific spells to work on yet. I'm the same way though. If I know what we're missing, then I know what I need to look for. At this stage, it seems like we're just trying to get an idea of the harder ones that we'll need to read. I know there's going to be a lot of O's and U's, so if you want to start with that, I'm pretty sure we'll use those books :)

Use overdrive. That is how I get my audio books. I just download from the library, and listen while I drive. (No need to plug in. I just tuck it under my visor, it amplifies the sound)
You only need internet to download, once its on your kindle you can play it anywhere .
Plus its free, you just need your library card.

Oh okay. I use Overdrive, but I never thought to put my Kindle under the visor. Thanks for the tip! I'll have to give that a try :)

Teresa (teresab78) | 1658 comments I’m still finishing up my current books but I think I’ll reread the philosopher‘s stone next. I have both hard copy and audiobook so I’m not sure which I’ll do :)

message 98: by Hannah (new)

Hannah (diamond_rebel) | 190 comments I'm out of town for my nephew's high school graduation. I brought Children of Blood and Bone but it's hard with lots of events to get into a new book. So I may pick up Sorcerer Stone because that's easy to pick up and whatnot.

message 99: by Samantha (new)

Samantha (missymaysreadingnook) | 808 comments Sounds good! I'm a little over a 1/3 of the way done with Sorcerer's Stone. The goal for me is to finish it today. The more time I have to read the last four books, the better. :) Children of Blood and Bone is going to be my next book as well.

message 100: by Kaley (new)

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1976 comments Reading is going ok! Slow this weekend because I went out of town to visit my mom for Mother’s Day weekend, but I’ve started both Harry Potter & the Sorcerer’s Stone and Children of Blood & Bone.
