That'd be cool! A security blanket so to speak, because the more I think about it, I'm not sure I can take 2 of their books in a row. The second one was ok, once you get past their childishness haha but I was glad when it was over.

Annalisa | 1573 comments We have lots and lots of rain this weekend, so I will probably get a good bit of reading done.

I joined Every Heart a Doorway BR. I'm a little behind since it started yesterday and I think most have already finished the book. Maybe the second one I can read with them if I like the first. Will have to see.

I don't think I saw Words of Radiance as a BR I only saw The Way of Kings. I'll ask if I feel up to it. I'm going to see how the other books I said I would read go.

Haha, yes, we keep piling on books! Probably better to first read the ones we signed up for and then see what we can fit in later on.

So glad, we're all in the same boat ;-)

Fingers crossed someone else isn't finished with Every Heart a Doorway yet, but I'm sure they'll stick around to discuss the book with you, even if some are already finished ( so fast!).

message 304: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments It's a short book. Less than 200 pages which is why I thought I would join. The opening was very interesting.

Talking of openings I'm not sure about Lilac Girls. The opening didn't grab me. I'll give it a bit more time. Maybe it will pick up once I get to know the characters a bit more.

message 305: by Eldarwen (new)

Oh that doesn't bode well, but let's hope for the best :-)

Short indeed! Sometimes that's nice in between all those chunksters!

V_Nerdbooks | 5079 comments finished Furiously Happy A Funny Book About Horrible Things by Jenny Lawson today, can be used for yellow, or would be pretty good for Transfiguration lol

now reading Every Note Played by Lisa Genova - would you say that was turquoise?

edit..hmm it is saying - #82ced1 79.7 %Spray (Blue) - but if i click on the actual colour it brings up pictures of turquoise blue oceans lol

message 307: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Did you like Furiously Happy? I listened to it during UNO and really enjoyed it. I found myself thinking boy I've had that conversation before: pockets in women's clothing. Actually, it's a rant I have about once a year.

message 308: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Oooh yes, V, Furiously Happy will be awesome for transfiguration!

Hmmm, Every Note Played looks more blue than turquoise to me, at first glance, and even at a closer look, I'd say blue rather than turquoise. Pictures are of course not always entirely accurate.

Natasha,

can you add The Girl with All the Gifts to your TT shelf, please?

Thanks!

message 310: by Sunshine (new)

Sunshine (sunshine22222) | 804 comments Could we add a editable spreadsheet to see what everyone is claiming and finished?

I'm starting to get lost in all of the spells, classes, and post :)

message 311: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
As soon as we have the green light for the classes tab to be used, we'll do a proper update and add all the tasks that have been completed already and pencil in the ones that have been claimed.

I'll also create a post to keep track to go on the first page of the thread, but I'd rather not use an extra editable spreadsheet because, you know, too many cooks. Besides, team communication is a good thing, even if it really does get confusing at times!! ;-)

I'll try to do a thread update tomorrow. I should find an hour sometime tomorrow afternoon or so to do it.

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
If you're looking for something in particular to read though, then I'd go foooooor.. lemme see...

- Astronomy (celestial objects in title)
- Charms (we don't have much for those yet, only a couple of options, such as an unbroken set of glasses, so if you have a book cover with a broken pair of glasses, that could be cool to use for the mending charm)
- Divination (anything with prophecies/visions would be great)
- Herbology (hardcover?)

Maybe that'll help with the choosing? :-)

That is so surprising of you, Laura. I would never have guessed you'd read an entire series in one go ;-)

message 316: by V_Nerdbooks (new)

V_Nerdbooks | 5079 comments Annalisa, yes i really enjoyed it, i think i preferred Let's Pretend This Never Happened just because it made me laugh so much, this one was more real if that makes sense, but i still gave it 5 stars as i think she is awesome, my brain tends to go off on tangents like hers, she's brilliant

message 317: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I haven't read Let's Pretend This Never Happened. I'll have to. Furiously Happy was real, and hard at times but I think that is why I enjoyed it so much. I really connected with her thought process and writing and that is often not true with memories and personal non-fiction.

message 318: by V_Nerdbooks (new)

V_Nerdbooks | 5079 comments Let's pretend is hilarious, it's more aboit her growing up and her family, mainly her dad and dead stuffed animals 😂

The audio book is so funny, she sings the title of each chapter, one of them is I ONCE GOT MY HAND STUCK IN A COWS VAGINAAAAAAA 😂😂😂😂

message 319: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I'm definitely going to go out and find the audiobook.

Teehee
I’m actually up to book 8
I was going to reread them before getting into #8 but I’ve committed to so many other BRs that I’m not so sure now!! 😳
May just re read #1 and then head into #8

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I'll be waiting in the #9 thread then! I was saving it for a month before publication of the last book but you know... reading challenges happened!

LaurLa | 2378 comments E - I know I need to update my completion posts still. We have our final game at 10:00 this morning and pretty much free time till dinner, so I'll try to get them done this afternoon. Of course, that might be during your sleeping time!

I will try to commit to the Kate Daniels BRs. I'm really bad at BRs. I either can't get to them when they start because of other book commitments or I read them too fast and forget to go back and comment. But for you guys, I will make a better effort ;-) But I haven't seen one for number 6 which is where I am...

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Oh I think the mods 'activate' them when someone asks for them.

I'm bad at BRs too! I have a hard time sticking to planned reads as I'm a very moody reader. Hence, multiple books being read almost at the same times. 😳

message 329: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments When I post a completion for a buddy read do you need me to post links my comments or is a link to the thread enough?

message 330: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Thanks, Karen!

No worries, LaurLa! Hope the games were going well! :-)

Hope you guys will enjoy your Kate Daniels books :-D I would join those, too, but too many other books already and besides, or the most part I'm just not that much of a rereader, which I realised after finishing the first HP.

I have the same issues as you guys with BRs hehe. TT is the only reason I'm actually joining them for some points for the team.

Alright, classes tab can be filled in now :-)

I'll do it tomorrow morning though, so in about 12 hours, because I can't stay on the computer anymore. My headache is still not gone and the screen is making it worse again.

Happy reading, guys! I'll give you a proper update on everything tomorrow!

I'm the same way. I'm currently reading 5 books. One of those I haven't been in the mood to read in over a year. I know I'll pick it back up when I'm feeling like it. I also tend to pick up books and read them in one sitting if they hold my attention. I'm much better at discussing after I'm done reading than during. I'll have to see how the buddy reads go.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments And sometimes I finish a book in one sitting because I don't need much of my brain cells to work!

Tea,

do you think the genetically engineered man-wolf beasts in Scarlet could be killed by poison?

If so, I'm currently reading a book that has poison in title, so we could use those two together for DADA.

message 339: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Ok, so I've done a first quick check of the books we have and I've added the most obvious to classes already.

I also created an overview on the first page of the thread for those who may not have easy access to the spreadsheet on phones etc.

Post
And the one underneath continues with the classes.

LaurLa and I will discuss a few more options and then also start on Arithmancy and Spell-Outs and then we'll see where we stand.

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
What you, as a team, need to do:

Consider your book options and talk to the team about them. We need to be able to make them fit together.

This goes for:
- Charms
- Defense Against the Dark Arts
- Transfiguration

It helps to talk to the team about these so we know who can read for what and which pairs can go together.

Thanks :-)

I really don't know. They showed up (in their true nature) just little before book finished. I guess they should be. So far they were really hard to kill (it was mentioned that one or two were killed but not how)
If someone read a series they could probably tell you more. Or I could pick up next book soonish. :)

Maybe it would be best to use this book somewhere else and I'll find something that can be poisoned :)

I just remember that mc is cyborg. I don't think that would work really as monster but she has some useful skills like trowing darts from her finger :) (she has actually lot of tools in her hand)

Are you talking about Wolf? If you were, and if my memory serves me right, he is susceptible to poison.

Ah.... friendly fire? ;-)

Evil mages, I'd say are killed by good mages. All in self-defense of course hehe.

They could be poisoned, run through with a sword, shot by an arrow/gun (distance seems safe).... Probably lots more?

Guess we can leave that combination then of Wolf being killed by poison. Or at least, keep it in mind as an option.

Maybe we'll find a better pairing :-)

Would you consider Lover Unbound (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #5) by J.R. Ward turquoise?

I can't quite settle down with The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch at the moment so I might dive into Lover Revealed (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #4) by J.R. Ward tonight, which incidentally is also an orange cover, so can be useful for Potions, too. I might then pick up Lover Unbound some time in June if you think it fits for turquoise.
