How very odd.... guess we'll stick with the page number of the GR page simply?

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments Hey Jammin Jenny here from Team Draco Malfoy (fellow Slitherin). You should definitely jump on the buddy reads and BOM books if you like the books they are reading You'll get more points and our house standings will increase! You can also ask in the Buddy Reads thread if people want to read books you're reading and if you can get someone not on your team to join you'll get points.

message 254: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I noticed for the book I'm reading currently there is a discrepancy in page numbers. Then I noticed that page number didn't start until after all the stuff at the beginning and it started with page 1. There were about 10 unnumbered pages at the beginning.

I know you've read book #3 but in case Sally and I end up alone, maybe you'd like to pop in to help us get a bit of conversation going? :-) Thanks!

I should be getting Lilac Girls tomorrow. Maybe I can catch up with the BOM discussion if I play it constantly.

Don't you just hate it when a book has 498 pages?? Why not add 3 more? Then we'd get 20 more points :-p

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Sure will E! I dont remember much but Reading you guys talk abiut it will rack my brains a bit i think. Im still out on a trip on the start date but Ill make sure to catch up!

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments What book are you reading that's 498 pages E?

message 263: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I think we were talking about Lilac Girls. It is very close to 500 pages. It's long and I'm a bit worried I might not make it through in time to get the BOM points. I got the audiobook so I didn't realize it was so close to 500 pages. It is 17.5 hours of audio though. That's longer than my typical audiobook.

Although, last year I listened to Moby Dick 32 hours of boredom. I wouldn't recommend it. I was so happen when one of the discs was scratched and skipped liked 15 minutes of a rant about the color white and death. Foreshadowing that hits you over the head. Also, an unreliable narrator. I could continue on about all the reasons I dislike Moby Dick. Funny thing is I've really enjoyed stories that are a retelling of Moby Dick or involved the story of Moby Dick somehow. I saw a BR for it and I kind of want to tell them not to waste their time, but maybe they will enjoy it.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I might join Lilac Girls too, I just need to go to a bookstore. I'll play catch up on the weekend.

I've only seen the Moby Dick movie as a child so I don't remember much aside from the feeling of wonder I've had then.

And I had a brown cover in mind that comes to 498 pages instead of 501 ;-)

Wow! Ok, did not realise Lilac Girls was that big a book as well! I'm contemplating it because it sounds interesting, but I don't think I'll manage to read it this month as I have too many books on my plate already, so maybe I should just let it be for now and keep it in mind for some other time.

LOL on the Moby Dick, Annalisa! Maybe you should stop by that BR thread and warn them ;-)

Alright ladies and gent!

CLASSES

Please read through carefully.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to ask in this thread. LaurLa and I will do our best to answer your questions, And if we do not know the answer, we will ask the mods. (Yes, there is a chain of command here hehe.)

The link will be added to the important links on the first page.

message 274: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Another interesting addition:

SCOREBOARD

(Link has been added to first page.)

Just like the house cup in the Harry Potter books, players of Tower Teams can gain their houses points through exceptional feats!

message 275: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
IMPORTANT

Now that we have our description of what is required for the various classes, I would ask you all to please go back to your completion posts and add the classes your books could fit for (along with a reason).

Thanks!

I know this can be a hassle but it is necessary since, as LaurLa has already stated, we do not know all the characters or the content of all the books :-))

If you're unsure whether a book could fit a certain class, come discuss it with the team.

Your dream one is definitely going to come in handy :-)

message 278: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I'm a little unsure if a dream will work in that case. I think it will but I didn't feel like the explanation made it any clearer.

Annalisa wrote: "I'm a little unsure if a dream will work in that case. I think it will but I didn't feel like the explanation made it any clearer."

Mmh, I can see why you might be concerned. If you feel more certain, we can always use your book for something else and see what else we can find for the divination class.

It seems like a prophetic dream though, even if not called that in the book, but we'll see then. :-)

message 280: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments It also fits herbology mortal and pestle. It has a moral and pestle on the cover.

I guess I'm uncertain because of the way it was worded. It was a prophetic dream but the character didn't know that when she had the dream. It is only when she starts experiencing the things from her dream in exactly the same way she realizes it is a true dream. Hmmm...now that I've written all that out it seems like it would fit.

And my conclusion: use it how it best serves us.

message 281: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Yes, I have to admit that mortal and pestle on the cover are smiling at me, begging me to use it for the herbology class. It's a perfect fit hehe.

message 283: by Eldarwen (new)

And then there's the Tri-Wizard Tournament... ;-))

Annalisa wrote: "Just to be clear, and I think this was already answered, books can be used for either classes or spells but not both, correct?"

That is correct.

We're going to focus on classes foremost and use whatever we cannot use in classes for the spells.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Do classes yield bigger points?

message 289: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I found a book with a brown cover that is over 500 pages. It is 60% brown according to TinEye. Words of Radiance (The Stormlight Archive, #2) by Brandon Sanderson It is over 1,000 pages. I can read it but it would take me a while.

message 290: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Also, I got my copy of the CD audio for Lilac Girls, and I will start that tomorrow. Since there is a day break there is a very very small chance I will catch up at least part way. I will have it finished by the 16th of June for sure.

Kathleen wrote: "Do classes yield bigger points?"

Not necessarily more points but there are less negative points involved in the classes in case we don't manage to finish everything up.

Of course, if we don't finish an entire class, we may not get any points at all for that class - as is the case for some of them.

Cool!!
If you feel up to reading it, go for it! :-D
You might even be able to find a BR partner for it. There's been quite a lot of Brandon Sanderson going around for them. (Or maybe it was just the same one repeatedly. With all the replies posted all over the place in that thread, I lost track haha.)

Awesome for Lilac Girls! Enjoy the read :-)

For Herbology, I can cover the two dirt books if nobody has something that fits. They should both be fairly quick reads, so I can fit them in somewhere in between.
Red Dirt Heart 3 (Red Dirt, #3) by N.R. Walker Red Dirt Heart 4 (Red Dirt, #4) by N.R. Walker

For Potions, I can read another yellow cover for one of the HP BRs.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Parts 1 & 2 (Harry Potter, #8) by John Tiffany

(These are options, apart from maybe HP #8 since it gives BR points.)

Also for Potions, I'm going to participate in three buddy reads that cover red, blue ad pink. I'm also doing a BOM that can cover another red.
Red Rising (Red Rising, #1) by Pierce Brown Devil in Spring (The Ravenels, #3) by Lisa Kleypas Hello Stranger (The Ravenels, #4) by Lisa Kleypas Red Sister (Book of the Ancestor #1) by Mark Lawrence

Care for Magical Creatures or maybe Charms, I'm going to participate in a buddy read with wings on the cover.
A Wizard of Earthsea (Earthsea Cycle, #1) by Ursula K. Le Guin

These are definitely going to be read.
