That's odd!
The one I added on Wednesday stuck, but seems like the bug (that was supposedly fixed...) has gotten worse again yesterday.

Hopefully you can manage to add a read date some time this weekend. No rush though, guys! We just need to remember to check it again at some point. I'll mark them on the spreadsheet so we know that something's up with them and it can be fixed whenever GR decides to stop being a pain.

Eurgh, yes, there have been so much flooding lately, and we generally don't have all that much trouble with that.

Last Sunday I went to a restaurant for lunch with my parents and this morning, the place was utterly ruined. Everything full of mud, broken furniture and water everywhere. They had 1,50m of water inside the restaurant - which is a lot for the tiny river that's going through that village.

Subterranean garages have flooded in a lot of places, breaking cars and everything else stored there. My neighbour's mum's car was in one of those and she'd left the window open a little bit to air out the interior... You can imagine :-/

Michelle | 465 comments Hello, everyone! I'm so sorry for being late--I wasn't checking GR because I really didn't think I'd be assigned to a team--hopefully I haven't been replaced yet ... ?

I have to back and read all the rules and everything and then I'll come back to plan my books. (:

Btw, here's my shelf.

Natasha | 1140 comments I was at a conference the past two days and didn't get to read much. I have a busy weekend, but I'm hoping to finish one of my books.

Then I was thinking about reading a book with a desert on the cover so that way either I or someone else could read a book with water on it for the water making spell.

You were lucky! Mods would've replaced you this weekend ;-)

Glad you could make it and thanks for the shelf link! :-)

Most important thing for now: Everything book you've STARTED and finished since the beginning of the challenge, so from May 12th onwards, can count for the challenge.

Could you please write a completion post for all of those with as much information as possible for the Spells and Classes? Thanks!

Completion posts go HERE.

Oh, and please check your read dates. They need to be accurate for this challenge, and unfortunately GR is being a huge pain about them lately and isn't adding the read dates... For some, not even after they've tried adding them a few times. Just something to keep an eye on :-)

Hope the conference was interesting!
Desert sounds like a good idea, yes. I think we have a book somewhere with lots of water on it, or maybe even two. Hopefully one of those will work with your cover :-)

Good call on the upir thing, Cathy!

Did you participate in the Magic Bites BR by any chance?

Diane said she would chat with me but so far only once so I'll wait to claim those points until I've earned them :P I should've started reading them before I was assigned to a team so could've read with the majority.

message 710: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments As soon as I read that I was like we can use that for a defense!

But I'm reading Down Among the Sticks and Bones (should be done with it tomorrow) so can use either one for the defense for the upir if you want.

Haha ok - hopefully someone will come by and chat with you! I would but it won't help since we're on the same team.

Was it your first time reading Kate Daniels?

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Nope, this is a re-read. But it's been about 3 years (when we did Gladiator Games) since I read it so I didn't remember most of what happened!

I've been wondering if I should reread them or not. It's been so long since I read the first books and with everything that's going on in that series, I can't remember all too much anymore either.

Was it as good the second time around??

Totally worth the re-read! It's been so long that it almost feels like I'm reading it for the 1st time (but without the confusion and trying to learn how this world works). And interesting to read as Kate comes into her powers and we're introduced to all the characters. And most especially since the last one is coming out in August :(

message 719: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
It's a shame, yes!!
But at the same time, I think it's better to end it now. The series is already quite long after all and too many more books might ruin the flavour.

I wonder what is next though! Apart from continuing the Innkeeper Chronicles.

Maybe I should reread that first book after all... hmm...

I went peeking. It has a nice cover *swoon*

And they better release this in paperback as well!! So far there are only kindle/ebook editions listed on GR......

message 723: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) So far so good!! They are supposed to release it all later this month I think. Arcs were limited so I got lucky.

message 725: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments That sounds exciting, Stacie! Is that something we need to finish the series before picking up?

message 726: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) So far I don't think so. And since it's out before the final one, I'm pretty sure it's fine. They mentioned Kate once but it's so far completely separate.

message 727: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments End of the month... always feels a little overwhelming trying to update challenge, start new ones. Ack. That's because I do too many I'm sure so I shouldn't be complaining... Oh right, I forget not everyone sees my blog but it was so good!! You should definitely not read it if you aren't caught up on the series because spoilers. Elara is Hugh's love interest and just as badass as Kate with even more mystery behind her.

It was action packed, bloody and sexy all at the same time. I want more like now. I'm all caught up on the other two series by them that I love so I'm in withdrawal now.

Oh yeah he does. There's some humanity in there every now and then when he decides to let it out but Hugh is still Hugh. There's a great scene with him and Roland. And some great lines. I am interested to see where this one goes.

Alright, teeny tiny announcement from your captain! ;-)

If you are unsure what book to pick up next or what to read for, here are some pointers of things we are still looking for and don't necessarily have an option or two lying around in the read books.

(I promise, those books will be used, we're just looking for good pairings since we still have time and don't have to rush just yet to get everything slotted in.)

What you could read for:

Astronomy
If we want to go for a little more variation than just stars, we'll need a few other words. 4-5 more books are needed for this class.

Care of Magical Creatures
We need something for Uses. Something of our creature that we could use, be it blood or feathers or eggs or something else. The word needs to be mentioned in the book, in the sense that it is supposed to be used, so no metaphors.

Herbology
One more fluffy chick-lit book, please. What we're looking for his actual fluff with an MPG tag of Chick-Lit, preferably.

History of Magic
For this, we can technically make anything work. If however you come across a title that is so superb that you think we should absolutely somehow integrate that into the little essay we need to write - go for it!

Potions
We need a few more cover items, which are:
- cauldron
- knife
- scale
And we also need a cozy mystery with either berries or juice on the cover.

Transfiguration
We have a crab that wants to be transfigured into something - or the reverse. If you have something awesome, read it and we'll be happy to make a fun transfiguration out of it.
Any other fantastic combinations are more than welcome!
We currently have 3 1/2 years done, so we need to read another 3 1/2 years. (The 1/2 is the crab.)

So jealous! & so glad it was so good! Does this take place during the Kate Daniels books (timeline-wise), or should it be read before the final KD book that comes out in August? Or does it not matter?

I think it can be read before the final KD comes out but after the last book that was released. So between 9 and 10. Goodreads has it listed as 9.5 but it will be its own series. It's got spoilers dating back to book 6 I think but also for 9 so if you aren't caught up, I wouldn't touch it unless you like spoilers :)

I read Cut & Run that had a knife on cover.

I can start an astronomy book today - busy with doing reports at work so its the perfect time to listen to an audio :) Planet names (Neptune) work right?

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Actually before I start that one, may need to re-read The Lost Hero (The Heroes of Olympus, #1) by Rick Riordan - would that work for Turquoise? (I know Tineye doesn't really help for this color because it reads as either Blue or Green)

Shows on Tineye as:

45.5 %Teal Blue (Blue)
15.6 %Cadet Blue (Blue)
12.0 %Mikado (Brown)
7.3 %Rob Roy (Brown)
7.2 %Horses Neck (Brown)
6.4 %Buttered Rum (Brown)
1.8 %Niagara (Green)
1.6 %Dark Khaki (Green)
1.5 %Sorrell Brown (Brown)
1.0 %Willow Grove (Green)
