Annalisa | 1573 comments I'm hoping that maybe by the end of this first round I'll actually understand what is going on. Currently I feel like I sort of understand the roles. However, I think I'm glad I'm sitting this round out.

I think once it's actually being played the first time it'll be much easier.

If you imagine it as a real-time game, like in the movies for example, you'll get the concept pretty fast.

That being said, I think I get the gist haha, but not guarantee ;-)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Yea I've been a little lost on it too. It's a little confusing!

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments I'm loving all the gifs!

Yes, so many good ones!

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Is Lee Jordan (why does the name sound funny) the official commentator?

message 659: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Yes!
Who better to comment on the matches if not Lee Jordan?? ;-)

(It's a mod account.)

Oh btw, I might join for the A Court of Wings and Ruin BR! Been meaning to read it for a while and it's actually a little sad that I haven't yet because I loved the previous one.

What did you think of A Court of Mist and Fury?

Awesome E, more thw merrier!

Still not a fan of Feyre, but all others I loved. Well, also Tamlin. I don't like the way his character was built up. But I do want to know how Feyre is going to use her powers and more Amren jokes please.

message 662: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Tamlin start off quite cool but then he got all possessive and prison guard, which I did not like. So I'm not quite sure what to make of him at the moment.
Rhysand started off as a bastard and used pain as a means to get what he wanted but I can relate to him more than Tamlin.

Feyre is... yeah, particular.

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Can shapeshifters die with poison?

kat (wanderfulbooks) (wanderfulbooks) | 2329 comments Or trolls?

message 665: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Shapeshifters have a very good sense of smell and most poison tends to have a bit of a sent, so maaaaybe not.

Trolls... I guess?? Apart from certain kinds of trolls turning into rock with sunlight (The Hobbit), I'm not quite sure what kills them. The ones in Harry Potter don't die, are only knocked out or not mentioned, so no idea what kills those.

message 666: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Well I thought quiddich would become clear once it started, but I'm even more confused now. I'm just going to continue reading and listening to books as I was before.

message 667: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
It'll get clearer, not to worry. :-)
Some things just need to be straightened out and then it will be fine.

Natasha | 1140 comments I'm reading The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy right now so soon we'll have something beside star for Astronomy.

LaurLa | 2378 comments I'm finished Strangers in Death (still need to mark it). Did we decide it would work for turquoise?

Fabulous!

We can always switch out one of the many star books we have and use those for something else :-)

Is a galaxy considered a celestial object?"

This is what Wikipedia says: Examples of astronomical objects include planetary systems, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies, while asteroids, moons, planets, and stars are astronomical bodies. A comet may be identified as both body and object: It is a body when referring to the frozen nucleus of ice and dust, and an object when describing the entire comet with its diffuse coma and tail.

So I guess it would be up to a mod. I can certainly read more books about smaller space objects.

message 678: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
I'm all for it. If the definition takes a galaxy or nebulae as a larger celestial object, in comparison to smaller ones such as planets and stars, then I'm all for using it!

Learn something new every day :-)

Quidditch ladies!

I.E. Stacie and V Nerd :-)

Since you're posting completion posts in the Dungeon, could you copy them into the Books Read thread please?

We don't need anything else for those books other than the title/author, date read, pages.

This goes only for the books you finish during Quidditch for Chaser Quaffle/Chains and Beater Attack/Defence.

message 680: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) Yes of course. I mean to ask about that. Also, can they maybe read a GOOD book lol

message 681: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!!

message 682: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Books read for quiddich can't be used for spells or classes?

message 683: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
No. But they'll still give us points for pages, so there's that.

message 684: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments What if you read a book as a BR or BOM would those points still count?

I'm so lost with quiddich. Also, it seems like a speed reading contest and I am not a speed reader. I don't have much time for reading on the week either.

Thank you V and Stacie for representing the Snape team.

message 685: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Mmmh, it's turned out to be more of a speed-reading contest than I expected, but I guess that is the nature of sports? There may be more tweaking after this first match is over. We'll see. If not, then we do have a few more speed readers available as long as they still want to play.

Those points would still count, yes, since BR and BOM points aren't considered part of anything else.
Books we read for BRs and BOMs can still be used for Classes or Spells. So the same applies for Quidditch, or even the Tri-Wizard Tournament.

Does that make sense?

message 686: by V_Nerdbooks (new)

V_Nerdbooks | 5079 comments yes unfortunately i probably am not the best person to have been picked for the team as I'm not much of a speed reader haha
currently sitting down after work/dinner/washing up etc and have my earbuds in listening to my book lol

message 687: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments Yep, thanks for the explanation.

message 688: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Oh no worries, V!! You don't have to be a speed reader to be on the team! It's actually quite cool - gives the other team less to do hehe, so they're just twiddling their thumbs and whenever you guys are done and the opposing team tries to do something, then Stacie and Natalie go clean up ;-)

message 692: by LaurLa (new)

LaurLa | 2378 comments And not to be obvious... but thank God it is!! Although my weekend is terribly busy and I'm sure I won't feel like I had one once Monday is here.

Going to dinner/baseball game tonight with out of town friends
Spending untold hours tomorrow (Saturday) updating challenges ;-)
Going to fundraiser party Saturday night
Helping in Kids area at church Sunday morning for 2 services
Attending 2 graduation open houses Sunday day.
Spending more untold hours updating challenges on Sunday evening.

And reading somewhere in there, oh and sleep too - HA!

message 693: by Eldarwen (new)

Eldarwen | 13645 comments Mod
Wow, busy bee indeed!

But apart from the updating, it sounds like a fun-filled weekend! :-)

Mine is much quieter haha. Art exhibit tonight after work, then dinner with a friend. I wanted to plant some flowers tomorrow but it's raiiiiiining so much today, and apparently tomorrow as well, so we'll see. Maaybe pizza with a friend on Sunday evening.

But the week's been long and exhausting, so I'm glad to spend some quiet time at home, like really really.

message 694: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) We're doing a family BBQ on Sunday now that everyone is back in town (my SIL was out of town last weekend). Other than that, the normal boring nonsense.

LaurLa and Stacie,

Since GR is being a pain again, can you please check the read dates for your latest book? GR ate the date..

I'll check it. I have put it in like 4 times. GR can bite me.

message 697: by Stacie (new)

Stacie (thesebooksaremyfriends) My read dates aren't sticking.

message 698: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments I noticed last night GR was having problems. I don't know if I ever got it to post in my BR or not. I may have given up. I thought it was just the app being stupid. Guess not.

message 699: by Annalisa (new)

Annalisa | 1573 comments @Eldarwen I know we are on different continents, I think, but the rain has been relentless. Earlier this week we had flooding and many road closures. I'm glad I live at the top of a hill. I'm looking forward to less rain over the weekend. I think I might get to see the sun for most of the day tomorrow! Hope you get some sun too.
