ABANDONED. 80's Book On the Outside Looking In?

I read this book when I was a teenager in the 80's about a girl coming of age who is befriended by a young married couple living next door, possibly in a trailer, renting from her family. It was called something like "On the Outside Looking In", she thinks there life is great, she drinks beer with them and spends all of her time with them. I think they may have a baby that she watches for them. In the end she sees that they have problems and realizes they aren't perfect.

Sorry if this is a bit obvious but have you searched Goodreads for the book title "On the outside looking in"? There are lots of books with that title or a similar title, maybe one of them will jog your memory.

I also thought of She's Come Undone which has a teenage girl befriending a neighbour couple. It's from 1992 though so might be too recent.
