Susannah Hume (imaginalia) Web Fiction Guide is definitely the best source; the categorised listings are awesome for trolling around until you find something that perfectly suits your mood.

If anyone is interested, I have a list of online fiction that I enjoy on my links page, here: http://www.to-jovan.net/links/ - with the context that I generally like darkish fantasy, and am biased towards slash and fairytale retellings. :)

Dan Bonser This is a great group, might not post all that often, but I'm glad I came across this, because there are so many serial fiction posters out there! Wow. Gonna take me awhile, but I can't wait to try to get into some of the work people are featuring here.

My own posts can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/ABNFict

So happy I found this group, can't wait to start digging through websites for great fiction!

It is a great group. I'm so glad to see people finding their way here. You are right, we are often quiet, but growth will, hopefully, include more conversation.
Welcome everyone!

M. P. Ness (m_p_ness) | 8 comments JukePopSerials.com is a great new membership community for serial readers/writers.

Alain Gomez | 8 comments I too am happy to find this group! I write a scifi serial called Muzik Chronicles: http://muzikchronicles.blogspot.com/

I've been at it for just under 2 years. Really fun to write but hard to generate traffic!

S.G. (s-girl) | 54 comments Michelle - I've been talking about the overall statistics for webfic at a blog I started in the fall at http://online-novel-blog.blogspot.com... .

There should be four posts total.

In terms of my direct serial statistics I plan to blog about it from a few different angles starting next week. I've been advertising on Project Wonderful for some time throughout the duration of the serial and have lots of data .

Alain - welcome to the group. I saw the new webfiction group in reddit and will join :)

C.A. Sanders I really like Jukepop Serials, and not just because I have my serial there. They have tons of stories, and they organize them pretty well. They have an Editor's Choice list too (of which my story "The Watchmage of Old New York" has been sitting on proudly).

I also recommend Bewildering Stories, again not just because I have a published story there. Both editors are very friendly and great to work with.

Gayla Drummond (gldrummond) I read "Girl Genius" (http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/comic...) and "The Challenges of Zona" (http://www.soulgeek.com/comics/zona/2...), which are both pretty long-running comics.

I have a few (dozen, lol) serial fics I keep up with. One is M. Klitzke's "Legacies of the Lost Earth" (http://www.embklitzke.com/e557/).

The site is awesome. I'd check it out if you haven't.

I'm actually looking into starting up a site for web-serials and kind of stumbled upon this group. Glad I did. I haven't written strictly web stuff as of yet, but since I plan into looking into the links here, I have no issues shamelessly posting a link to a short, 10 page comic I wrote(but did not draw) and got published a while back :]

S.G. (s-girl) | 54 comments The place most people seem to have traditionally discussed serials is at the WEbfiction Guide FOrums at http://forums.webfictionguide.com .

That said - it looks like this group has been pretty busy with new authors the past few weeks, so welcome!

I also list resources for this community at http://online-novel.com including where to list, host, etc.

Tommy - what's your feeling on creating your own page for your own serial? I was told by some that it's kind of "Icky" and that really fans should be doing that. But the people who told me that aren't tropes users or part of the community. I'd like to actually make a barebones page for my serial but not if it's going to be perceived in poor taste. :)

message 64: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 5 comments I've honestly not added any tropes myself, and I can see why it could be perceived as "icky" by some. To me personally though, it doesn't seem any worse than making your own wiki or, say, an actor doing their own IMDB page. I think maybe what turns people off are when creators make their own pages and just kind of brag about how cool their stuff is. If its just a straight forward, no BS tropes page, I would think that would be okay.

Take this with a grain of salt, but I think it would be smart to do your own bare bones page, as you said, and then leave it there for fans to find and add to it. I'd check it out if I saw a link :]

Robert Bedick (rbedick) | 2 comments I started serializing a new novel recently on my blog site. Tentatively titled The Zimmerman Files. Posting a chapter a week...so far five chapters are available.

Here's the link to the first chapter:
http://criminallyobscure.blogspot.com...

I guess it falls into the category of literary fiction. Semi-comic story about a lawyer who finds himself being reluctant witness against the mob.

I have one series that posts twice a week (Mondays and Fridays), and starting in August I'll be adding another series that posts on Wednesdays. I don't know how good it is, but I've enjoyed writing it. If you want to check it out, here's the link.

Scott Scherr | 1 comments Hello, I started a zombie serial novel back in February, titled, Don't Feed The Dark. It will run for eight months, concluding in October. I post new episodes every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (occasionally 4-5 days a week). If you're looking for a serial that will definitely run its course and not fizzle out into oblivion as some serials tend to do, I recommend you come on over and check it out. There are currently 53 generous-sized episodes posted and I'm a week away from concluding the second part of the book. Now's the perfect time to catch up. Here's the link to Chapter One if anyone is interested:

Please note the disclaimer on my site for this novel is not intended for younger readers.

Thanks for listening,

Robert Arrington | 8 comments I'm publishing my serial, The Wonderland Effect, on jukepop.com and on my own site, dispatchesfromwonderland.com.

As to what makes good web fiction, I think it's the same thing as makes good fiction in general. Too many serials meander around without any apparent goal in sight. I'm trying, with moderate success, to keep my story focused, using a four-act story structure. Because ultimately, a good web serial should make a good book. At least, that's how I feel about it.

message 77: by Robert (new)

Robert Arrington | 8 comments Michael wrote: "Doesn't Jukepop ask for exclusivity?"

No, jukepop does not demand exclusivity for your work. I publish there, on my own site, and even put the first three chapters of my serial on Wattpadd as a teaser to drive traffic to the other sites.

Ryan Watt | 2 comments Robert's Wonderland Effect is an excellent serial that I have really been enjoying.

I also have one up on JukePop for the past few months for those who are fans of fantasy. It's called Flocked and is an action/adventure/fairy tale.

Larry Kollar (lkollar) | 5 comments Hey there! I got invited to this group; it looks pretty quiet. I got started writing serial fiction on my blog back in 2007 or so, then branched out into self-publishing some of the cleaned-up stories.

I had the urge to do another serial of late, and here it is. Blink: Superhero Summer Camp

At age 13, Stevie Winkler is the youngest known super. Being able to teleport is cool, but keeping it a secret sucks. Professor Zero and some of Skyscraper City’s most famous superheroes are training him, but Blink finds the line between hero and villain isn’t always clear.

Blink has three goals as a teenage superhero: survive, keep Mom from finding out… and maybe get a girlfriend.

There's links on each episode to some backstory, and the "Skyscraper City" category has other brief stories about heroes and villains in this world.

If you are still seeking online serials, try Serealities.com.
There are always several serials running weekly episodes and readers have the opportunity to determine the direction of the story by voting on what will happen in the following episode. New episodes post on Fridays. It's fun and it's free.

Robert Arrington | 8 comments Those of you familiar with webfictionguide.com may have already heard of my story, since it is listed there. For those who may have missed it, may I humbly submit The Wonderland Effect for your consideration.

I publish regularly on my own site, DispatchesFromWonderland.com, or you can also read at www.jukepop.com. Both sites are free.

Jukepop is a curated web serial site, so the quality of the stories at least meets baseline requirements, and many of the stories are actually quite good. The Wonderland Effect was rated #1 by votes cast for the month of January for a while, though it has since slipped to #2. I hope you will find that endoresment enough to give it a try. Thanks.

Madiha (madihanakar) | 3 comments Hello! I just recently got into Goodreads as a place to categorize a gigantic stack of war books I'd just gone through, and I was quite pleased to find this group!

I write my own web serial fiction over at http://spiritsofeden.com called The Solstice War, a historical fantasy story about WW2-style strategic operations inspired by the Great Patriotic War or the Eastern Front, set in a fictional world. While there's a lot of technical warfare, it's also about the experiences of people on the margins of society but in the thick of the war.

As far as offering a recommendation, I found myself reading a lot of Cages, https://captivitystory.wordpress.com, a story that places humans into a narrative of cetacean captivity. It's pretty bleak, but rather novel, I think, with an interesting format and clearly a lot of effort put in. It caught my eye as something different than the usual.

First of all let me say, I’m new to both Goodreads and this group and I’m absolutely thrilled to have found both! I’m really looking forward to the discussions formed here.
On that note, I thought I’d take a moment to add my web serial to the list, which can be found here: www.litliber.com
The genres I cover are most closely associated with women’s lit, chick lit, and romance. I can’t wait to check out some of the other member’s works!

Etvolare | 1 comments Hello! I hope it's alright that I'm bumping an old thread, but registered just to comment because I really wanted to contribute to the discussion.

I run volare: http://volaretranslations.com/novels/

This is a site with ~20 online web serials, translated from their Chinese web novel counterpart. Chinese web novels are gathering huge steam in recent years and there are hundreds of thousands of very well written, meaty novels ranging anywhere from fantasy to romance to action and to horror. The authors range from amateur to professional authors with their works adapted for the big screen.

The translation scene to bring them to English readers really sprung up in the last two years, and I've got a curated selection on my site with some of the finest translators around. I've linked everyone to a first-time readers page, and will be here if anyone has any questions about the scene! I hope I've intrigued some of you into taking a closer look. :)

I've been posting it to WordPress for a little over six months now, but it's been quiet as crickets. Some traffic, but no feedback. It's starting to feel a little like screaming into the void, if you know what I mean. Any tips for battling the "Why am I even doing this?" feeling? Robert Lamb (boblamb) | 2 comments I'm a fellow writer. I don't normally read your kind of fiction, but I looked it over and thought you had done it well. How are you promoting it. May I suggest askdavid.com? Schedule the tweets for different time zones. I recently sold a copy of my Atlanta Blues in Japan! Reminded me of Terry Kay, author of To Dance With the White Dog, and others. He lives in Athens, Ga., but is very popular in Japan. Go figure. Do you promote on Facebook. Post your book's link there with, say, a plug from whomever. Too, your lack of response might be because you're sort of on the leading edge of serialization., IMO. Good luck. Never give up.
