Secret Life of the Zoo

I'm enjoying the series 'Secret Life of the Zoo' on Channel 4 which provides a glimpse of behind the scenes at Chester Zoo. Today the zoo is the most visited attraction outside London and as a charity is focusing on the conservation of critically endangered species through education, research, breeding and by funding projects aimed at helping their survival in the wild. I love watching the interactions between Boris, a fifty year old chimp and his keeper Niall. They seem to share a close bond. Boris was brought to the zoo by his owners in the 60s from New York. They had bought him as a baby in a pet shop but he became too big to keep. They heard of George Mottershead and Chester Zoo where chimps were keep on islands surrounded just by water which at the time no other zoo was doing.
