Lesa Divine | 1513 comments Glad to be apart of the team. Checking in....now I'm have to go and reread the rules again lol.

message 3: by Lesa (new)

Lesa Divine | 1513 comments If I'm reading this right.....

Our first lines.....I can take #1 & #8 I have a book with (time) in the title. And I have a book with (door) in the title.

Lines:
(Word passed: ...)
(1) A long, long time ago
(2) I can still remember how that music used to make me smile
(3) And I knew if I had my chance
(4) That I could make those people dance
(5) And maybe they'd be happy for a while
(6) But February made me shiver
(7) With every paper I'd deliver
(8) Bad news on the doorstep
(9) I couldn't take one more step
(10) I can't remember if I cried
(11) When I read about his widowed bride
(12) But something touched me deep inside
(13) The day the music died
(Chorus)
(14) So bye, bye, Miss American Pie
(15) Drove my Chevy to the levee but the levee was dry

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments I'm here 😊 how do we want to do this? Each choose a line? or just post whatever we are reading and what it is for before we start so no one doubles up? Different plan?

☆☆Hannah☆☆ | 6596 comments Checking in! I will see what line(s) I can do.

message 6: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments Lesa are you wanting the entire lines or just those words?

message 7: by Lesa (new)

Lesa Divine | 1513 comments ✌ Ashley ☠ wrote: "Lesa are you wanting the entire lines or just those words?"

I may have to take the entire lines. Just going to try to find books that fit them. Hmm it's like this game going to be more of a research then reading lol.

message 8: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments True! I almost went solo so I wouldn't have to worry about overlapping anyone. I have books that fit all the lines so I really don't care how we do it. We can also spell out the words in each line so just about any book will work 😊

message 9: by Leah (new)

Leah | 2623 comments Checking in.

☆☆Hannah☆☆ | 6596 comments I can do line 12. I have books for all the words. It looks like it's the only line I have all the books for. We may have to pair up and work on lines together. For 3 of them I have all the words but 1.

message 11: by Elise (new)

Elise (eliseanhorn) Checking in!

I'm moving home from school on the 6th so until then, I will be very limited for books I can read. I can start lines 1 and 9 though (I have ago and one with me at school)

message 12: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments So far Less has 1 and 8 and Hannah has 12. Does anyone want to claim any for buddy reads? I can take lines 2,4, and 6 if no one else needs any of those words

message 14: by Elise (new)

Elise (eliseanhorn) I'll take line 9 for now

message 15: by Leah (new)

Leah | 2623 comments I can do 14.

Bolds have been claimed. I'll let everyone know asap if there is a word I can't find. More than likely I will try to spell it out though.

Lesa Divine | 1513 comments Okay cool Ashley.
I got all my books for my 2 lines. OMG that was a bit of a research lol. The good thing is I still was able to fit in books I plan to read next month. Yay me.
So how will we do this for every time we finish a word in our line we post? For those that's spelling out a word do we post once we read all the books to complete the spelled word or post anyways saying what letter in that word? OMG do I even make sense lol.

☆☆Hannah☆☆ | 6596 comments You need to bold 12 for me.

I have no idea how to do the spell out. That's why Leah and I both are doing the whole word. It makes it easier.

message 20: by Lesa (new)

Lesa Divine | 1513 comments Can we share lines? I never asked Sarah that. Example if me and another member pick a line then break up the words we'll use in order to complete the line. I don't mind sharing other lines with another member.

Lol oh I figured it out like I'm reading 3 books to complete my word NEWS....N and W in 1 book the 2 separate books for E and S. I noticed more points when it comes to the page count if words are spelled instead of using 1 book for a word...yay smart me lol...

message 22: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments When you spell you just say title the line then word.
Let's say the book is Dante's Inferno, you would say D for dance, line 4

message 23: by Lesa (new)

Lesa Divine | 1513 comments Got it.....cool because I'm spelling out a few books for my lines.

message 24: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments Spelling can potentially get more points. Let's say line one, you would get 5 points for the line, one per word (plus whatever page points and if it is buddy) then ten when it is done. If you spell it out then that is 16 points (one for each book) plus pages and buddy reads then ten points for completing the line. It depends a lot of book page count and if they are buddy reads.

message 25: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments Yep Lesa sorry just saw your last comment ☺

message 26: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments Oh and we can share lines

message 27: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments And even words if you have a letter and I have the next and so on. Everyone could potentially work to spell out one word

message 28: by Lesa (last edited Apr 21, 2018 04:14PM) (new)

Lesa Divine | 1513 comments Yeah I got excited with the spelling of News lol because 1 of my books is over 600 pages another is about 500 another is 300 and something. And that's just for one word lol. Now if I didn't spell it out and found a book that had the title News in it and about 300 something pages. Now I seen the difference and decided to start spelling out a few words instead....I read a lot of books so I don't mind lol.

Ok cool....

message 30: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments That's how I am. I would have if my choices were limited to just what words were in the phrases. And why I said if I couldn't do a word I would post it up. If someone else really wants to read a book and have it count, no point in me trying to dig one up.

message 31: by ☆☆Hannah☆☆ (last edited Apr 21, 2018 07:13PM) (new)

☆☆Hannah☆☆ | 6596 comments You can also mark me for lines 3 & 5. I will have to spell out one word in each one but I should be able to do it. I read a lot of books.

Updated: I got all my books picked out for my 3 lines. Which will total 24 books.

Susan (jazzescrapper) | 2606 comments Hi there checking in.

message 33: by Susan (new)

Susan (jazzescrapper) | 2606 comments I can take line 13 and I am most likely going to do the spell it out mixed with the read the book with the word. In the rules it said we could do both

message 34: by Ashley W (new)

message 38: by Becky (new)

Becky | 557 comments I may need a bit of help with this as I've just read threw this thread and I am now confused sorry if any one can help please let me know thanks

message 39: by Lesa (new)

Lesa Divine | 1513 comments Hey Becky pick a line or two that isn't bold and read a book that has that word in it. I'm take my line for example.

A long, long time ago

So the books I may read is:

A - Alone
Long - The Long Ship
Long - The Long Walk
Time - The Time of Contempt
Ago - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Dragon has Ago)

Now if you want to spell out a word let's take my second line as example:

Bad news on the doorstep

So if I prefer to spell out a word let's take News

Name of the Wind - letter N and W
Now I just have to find a book with E starting with the letter E in a title example Sins of Empire E in Empire but it has to be a beginning of a word in the title like I couldn't have used E in Name of Wind I only could use the capital letter unless I found a book that had the title New all together I could has used that but then I'll have to find a book starting with the letter S to complete News.
When spelling out a word there's more points due to the page counts.
I hope I made sense.

message 40: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments Hi Becky! Like Lesa said, you can choose a line that isn't in bold or just words even if you want. 😊 I will try to keep up with bolding and crossing them out as we go to keep it easy

message 41: by Elise (new)

Elise (eliseanhorn) What word do you guys want to skip??

Also, I'm willing to buddy read a book if anyone who has I or could in their line wants to!

message 42: by Elise (new)

Elise (eliseanhorn) I can take like 7 too! I have quite a few books for it and should be able to find the rest!

message 43: by Ashley W (new)

Ashley W (starfallreads1) | 6011 comments Elise I got and will change it as soon as I get on my computer.

It doesn't matter to me what we skip. Maybe a short word that shows up a lot?

And I was thinking that when we get started, the person who finishes a line does the one that opens up next? Just to keep the flow. And if two people finish in the same day, whoever had the earlier line gets the next one and so on. Just to keep it smooth

message 44: by erin (new)

erin (magicalmenagerie) | 10 comments Hey, here is a link to a doc we can use to type our titles and calculate points

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

For some of us it might be better to work on the same lines together? If we can't find enough books for one entire line? Then we can complete them faster and open up the next line.

message 45: by erin (last edited Apr 22, 2018 01:08PM) (new)

erin (magicalmenagerie) | 10 comments The tab at the bottom of the doc has the word by word progress portion. When I converted it from Excel, some of the box lines went away but it still works. I didn't make the document, someone else in this goodreads group did because they shared it with the medium team, and all of the other medium and serious ones, that I switched from :)

message 46: by erin (new)

erin (magicalmenagerie) | 10 comments I really want to read A Court of Frost and Starlight (which would work for A or And somewhere) for this challenge since I will be reading it next month anyway, does anyone have that open on one of their lines? I'm not sure which ones are still available.

message 47: by Natalie (new)

Natalie (esaria) | 4273 comments Hiya! I've created a master spreadsheet for use during this challenge so that all teams can use it if they feel it would be useful for keeping track of things (etc). Please see below if you're interested c:

---

The spreadsheet I made can be found here if you'd like to use it:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

I've got a few different "worksheets" on this, which can be accessed via the tabs at the bottom. These include a basic "info" spreadsheet, an Progress (word-by-word) sheet, an "EXAMPLE" spreadsheet which explains how the Progress (word-by-word) sheet works, a Progress (sentence-by-sentence) sheet, and a "word count" sheet where I did a count of all the times each word appears in the song to make it easier to choose which word your team might like to pass on.

If you want to use it, please follow these steps to make a copy for your own use:
1. Click "File" (top left corner)
2. Click "Make a copy"
3. Fill in the details for what you want it to be called, where you want it to be stored in your own Google Drive, and whether you want to share it.
Note that in the copy you make there will be a "SHARE" blue button on the top-right corner of the spreadsheet. You can change how it is shared to "Link sharing" so that anyone with the link to your copy of the spreadsheet can view/comment/edit

If you have any questions please let me know! (Hopefully I covered everything...)

Hi Erin! I don't have any a's or an's in my lines, but one of the other girls might be able to help you out. If not you could always use the title letters to spell (or partially spell) a word. I'm pretty sure Hannah and Lesa have their books picked out. Becky has not chose her line yet, so maybe you you don't have enough for a whole line, you guys can work together? Or you can just claim a word and I'll bold that one out and everyone else can pick whatever words from that line?
