I just read the book this year. I think it is realively new. It is adult fiction. The woman is of Indian decent. Her family was rich- her father a doctor. The family takes in a poor girl from a small village. The poor girl's mother was a prostitute. The poor girl gets separated from the family. The family moves to America. After the father passes away, the woman goes back to India to find the "poor girl".
