Adam tries to capture Wyatt without killing him but is finally forced to take his life. Why do you think it was important for Adam to take him alive? Do you think he’ll have any regrets?

Perhaps there would be questioning about other police corruption. Also, isn't the rule to try to take suspects alive?

In addition, I think Adam wanted to go against his natural desire for revenge, on behalf of Meredith, and to prove he was a decent guy and cop.

For all Wyatt meant to him growing up, Adam wanted to take him alive. That everything wasn't as great as Adam remembered was a blow to him.

I also think he wanted to learn more from Wyatt, how he could have been so wrong about him. His whole life just exploded in front of him that day.

I would bet that Adam would be second-guessing himself, even if reason said he had to shoot.

Adam wanted to draw a firm line between himself and Wyatt. Being an honest cop and upholding the law and not let revenge get in the way proving himself the much better man.
